oil plug gasket??? aka washer
just went to toyota and bought an oil filter for my 05 tc, and the parts guy asked me if i wanted to buy the gasket for 92 cents, so i did thinkin it would be the rubber seal, that goes around the oil filter, nope.. its the washer for the oil plug, but the thing is i NEVER ever had a washer (gasket) on the drain plug bolt ever... is this correct? do i need it? is this for newer tc's??
My car didn't have one to my knowledge for the longest but I started being offered one maybe 2 years ago. Do you need it? Probably not. But for 92 cents, why not put it on? They may do it because another model may need it (since more than the tC uses that filter).
so after changing my oil, i noticed on the oil plug that the bolt itself has what it looks like a washer connected to the bolt... its one whole piece.. so i slid the new washer on it, and it looked like over kill so i didnt leave it on.. not sure what your oil plugs look like... if its just a bolt needing a washer
It probably not actually connected, it is more than likely just stuck on there. I usually get one everyone oil change, sometimes the parts guys just give it to me for free. I think last time I forgot to ask for one and just reused the old one and I have been fine.
