As far as Royal Purple goes, if their engine oil performs anything like their 75w90 gear oil, you should leave it on the shelf wherever you found it. It blows.

i just changed mine yesterday day with mobile one.. runs the same lol.
i always used royal purple in my 94 celica but found out it was just a waist.. i heard its beter to be put in engines with low low miles because it doesnt have as much cleaning agents, as other oils.

This is a "rule" for Synthetics, though it cannot be said entirely true. Well, actually its more of a myth. Saying is that since the older engines have build ups that could be stopping leaks, that using synthetic oil will dislodge those blocks causing leaks. I've never once had this problem. This is not just a "royal purple" deal.

What brand oil you use isn't really going to affect idling. Most of the affects of different oils in which this community use wouldn't ever be shown without an oil analysis. www.bobistheoilguy.com can show the affects of each oil and weight with a scientific level to it.

I use Mobil 1 Extended Life Synthetic. Claims to be good for 15k, although ill change the oil filter at around 7k.

Also, anybody using synthetic oil and doing oil changes around 3-5k is a total and complete WASTE OF MONEY! Why pay the extra money to do regularly scheduled maintenance changes with synthetic oil. Synthetic oil is engineered to last longer then conventional oil that prematurely breaks down. Its like buying Energizer E2 Lithium batteries and throwing them away after a single day of watching tv, because you want them fresh for tomorrow.

There have been a few threads on YSTC about oil change intervals. Ask any trucker about oil changes, theyll set you straight. These are guys that put a couple thousand miles on their engine in a few days. And surprisingly, their trucks have almost ZERO down time. Why? Because they maintain their engines properly and get the most use out of their oil, otherwise they dont put food on the table.
