Ok one thing you all should also realize is that professional racers with the best mechanics get 500 miles out of a race built car IF they are lucky. These ain't no race cars! And who the heck thought to put reverse next to 5th gear!!!

Well, I think vvti24 has been hassled enough about the driving drunk thing so I'll get to his question...

A compression test, if I recall correctly, is where the spark plug is replaced with a presure mesurment device of some sort, and then the engine is turned over by my some means, as the piston moves up the cylinder on the compression stroke, the pressure is read on the measurement device. Max pressure is read when the piston reaches top dead center.

A leak down test involves replacing the spark plug with a fitting that can be connected to a hose and a compressed air source. the cylinder is then pressurized, and attached to the hose is a gauge. Once pressurized, you watch the gauge for any loss of pressure.

hey some one earlier posted something about their valves sounding like they are hitting louder I dont know if its just me but i kinda think maybe mine sound different now to...I would think the computers are so sensitive now that any slight malfunction would trigger the CEL....i mean if even something as simple as changing headers causes that I dont see why abnormal valve movement wouldn not lol

 

so yeah, my experience with overreving has led to my entire head being replaced (well mostly anyways)

pretty much the #4 cylinder was crapped out

compression test had 177, 177, 178, and 112 in #4

unseated valve is what the tech said. nothing ever struck any pistons or cylinder walls thankfully.

new valves, springs, retainers, locks, shims, etc etc. along with a new intake side camshaft. pretty much the only thing that wasnt replaced was the head and the exhaust side camshaft.

runs great now, sounds normal again. WOOOOOOOOOT!

all under warranty to boot ;) how is beyond me considering the mods, but hey, im not complaining.

 

what dealership was that? central florida toyota? i went there while i was in florida, they seemed alright.

Heh, trees are pretty nasty things. I saw the aftermath of some guy hitting a tree at 110 some sort of car(prolly at 90s civic) the speed limit for the street was 45 and the guy was killed on impact. His car ended up in 4 chunks and the tree was still standing. I think he was around 20 years old cause if the newspaper artical at my school about him after it happend. kinda sucks to die so young
