When the gasket is smaller than the hole, u use a dremel and match it to the hole diameter, to increase flow of gases or incoming air into the engine. At least that's the basics.
From another website:
"Port matching is lining up the ports on an engine so there is no abrupt wall change when going from the intake runners to the cylinder head ports. Gasket matching accomplishes the same thing but the ports will be opened up to the gasket size."

I know exactly what you’re taking about. I think it would help greatly iv seen it done on an Ls head made the ports about 1/4 bigger gave that sucker about 30+ extra HP with all stock components with a fuel controller. I have a friend that might do this for me for 3 bills. Port match intake and exhaust ports and polish my intake.
How would you know if the holes lined up though? Wouldnt you need like a shrink ray to shrink yourself and then have your buddy put the pieces together to make sure the walls were flush? lol

You use some kind of paint to mark the parts that do not line up either in the in the port or in the gasket, after that you take ONLY the part that does not line up. VERY CAREFULLY. I really think I will pay someone to do this, this looks VERY dangerouse.

I would be extra careful, but yes I would do it. I even saw they did a port match in a plastic Intake Mani like in our cars. But it was on a NEON.

I'd leave the porting of the actually engine bits to professionals.

Well I got an extra header gasket, and I will see if I can get something out of it by gasket matching and if the chance gets to me, maybe even port matching at the same time, if it needs it.

Well I tried the Gasket Matching, bad news, it won't do nothing unless u port the head, since the gasket is already bigger than the header, and the head exhaust ports. So, u wouldn't benefit without port matching, which I would let to a professional.
