Default Rear wheel conversion??

I understand the amount of work required for a rear wheel conversion on cars...
But I do not know the labor work dollars required for such a task...

Does anyone have a REAL estimate for the price to drop a3.0 2JZ-GTE engine in the tC (not the price of the engine) have it mounted, with proper transmission...custom built rear differential and axle...and all needed cutting/remaking of the interior middle section??

I'm talking serious here...Don't post if all you want to do is say this is stupid...I want real answers...

i agree with joedarkness, The tC is made to be FF. A FR would be terrible with that little stubby backend. You'll spin out on every turn. I dont think this is stupid at all. Anything is possible with money but it would be pretty cool to see.

if you did that, never expect the car to be anywhere near OEM quality.

the balance of the car would be off and the structural integrity would always be at question.

that being said, i'd estimate around $8k for the labor involved not including parts.

realize you will need to put a cage in the car or beef up the frame if you added that kind of power and weight.

you may also want to put the tc on jackstands and visualize a route for the driveshaft to travel to figure out some of the snafus... that and the exhaust.

I always figured that if a guy was smart enough or serious enough to actually do this properly, he wouldn't be asking these questions.

Just buy a Mustang or F-body and you get something faster cheaper and more reliable. Try fixing your rwd tC when you break it. You better be able to make every thing yourself and you will break lots of things. Good point Scott if you need to ask online you dont need to try.

if you have to ask, then its not worth the time or money. maybe 5 or 6 years down the line when the 05s is around dirt cheap, i would love to attempt something like a MR tC

its a pipe dream i know it but it would be fun to attempt that.

And alot more do-able since the Rav4 is AWD and shares our engine. Since there is a difference in wheelbase length, you'd have to fab a new driveshaft. I'd imagine a some point, someone will try this. If they can put a Skyline engine in a 240SX, they certainly can do this.

Why? Why change the engine in the car? Why? If you hate the engine enough to change it out, why buy the car?

skyline and silvia are both RWD cars. thats not very hard to do. just a change of motor mounts

The silvia motor fits in a 1991 Nissan SE-R and thats front wheel drive. You got to take alot in to consideration.

Actually the swap I read about was from a AWD skyline. It's in the July issue of Modified Mag.

And some of the older RB (Skyline) engines can fit into the older 240s without switching out motor mounts.

When I saw this post I immediately thought the RAV4 idea. It's a lot more easy to do, though still difficult. But boost it with a smaller turbo and you'd have approx a 300All-whp Evo competitor. My 2 cents...

only difference is a transfer case and even then you don't have to run a new driveshaft just axles to the front wheels. the driveshaft part is the hard part. usually you have to carve the car like a pumpkin when convering to RWD from FWD (because of the driveshaft to the rear)
