We tried manually turning the engine, no-go, real stiff, but my buddy says new engines are like that .
I'm gonna say it's the battery not having the juice to put enough power in that starter to move that sucker.

Well, tried to jump start her (with a v8, too) and no-go. We got farther, it sounds like the starter is trying, we get a little struggling whine, but nothing else moves. :/

We suspect something might be bound up in the transmission area. So tomorrow we'll take out the starter, make sure it works, and probably next weekend break into the transmission.

Did you pull the battery take it to advanced auto or AutoZone let them charge it for you for free. Then go from there

Neither, my battery had enough juice after sitting for 3 weeks.

Did you have it tested? What make you think it had enough juice, just asking.

I assume it had enough juice because once we fixed the grounding issue the starter began cycling normally and it fired up the 4th time after some effort. I had to have the throttle open when i first started it. Nearly redlined it at startup lol.

Put it in (park or nuetral, not sure if you have a manual or auto) and try flooring the pedal when starting it. Mine wouldn't start until I did that.

Woo, I disappear for a few days...

Me and another did the swap, manual. We charged up the battery, got it full, and even tried jumping, no luck. Life is taking over, so it likely won't be until, not this weekend, but the next we can get back under the hood.

We suspect the transmission because we pretty much crammed the cover over it, and something might not be setting right.

The guy that sold the engine said something about a vacuum plate/spacer behind the flywheel, neither of us have ever heard of that. Same goes for my friend's brother's advice about bearings in the transmission, which we don't think there was.

But eventually we'll take a looksee.
All y'all's advice tho has been great, thanks!

If it's a manual I don't see how something in the tranny would keep it from starting (except the clutch lol). But my engine was from an automatic so I had to pull my flywheel from my old engine.

If somehow it wasn't aligned when installled it could have jammed it.

Sooo...an update. Finally got to the car in a homework/house work lull, and it's not the starter. Not the engine.
We cracked apart transmission, w coil packs out, and it all turns over. Tightened bolts, no go. When we keep a gap 1/4 in bw transmission & engine, it turns, if the bolts are tightened, nogo.

Anyone got suggestions? The guy i got the engine from mentioned spacers, but were at a loss here as to what those r let alone where to put them

Can you turn the transmission input shaft by hand? How does the input shaft look and how does the crankshaft end look

my mechanically inclined friend says: yes, can be turned. Also says the shafts look as they should: splined, grooved, and tapered at the end

...We may have found the issue: the lower bolt in the front engine mount was too long and was hitting the flywheel. We took it out and sure enough, it was all chewed up. It got put in before I could snap a picture of it, but some washers were put on, bolts screwed back in, and the engines turns by hand. Voila!

So all this jackarsery of not starting was from a bolt we were pretty sure went where it came out of. :/

Gotta replace the passenger transaxle seal, but I'm optimistic (a rarity) that she'll be driveable by this weekend.

Man, if it's not one thing, it's another.
Got her all hooked up, she started, drove just fine, tho I've only driven her maybe 5 miles, and then she threw a code: P0012: Cam over-retard.

Any ideas?
I'm searching through the net right now for any advice

So another update: she drive's great, accel's well, starts, goes, no major problems (except clutch clicking, but I'll make another thread when I want to deal with that), and I figure the engine code... I'll just get a new sensor later, but she's back to eating oil. A lot of it. I'm figuring about half a quart per 100 miles, which was the whole reason for changing out the motor in the first place.

Any ideas? No visible leaks, no visible smoke, sounds and smells "normal"
