Default Screen in Throttle Body Gasket?

Does anybody know why there is a screen that is built into the throttle body gasket that covers only half of the throttle body opening? I pulled my throttle body yesterday just to see how much bigger you could go before you would need an Intake
and honestly unless you are replacing your Intake I don't see the benefit to a bigger throttle body because the opening in the Intake is the same size as the stock throttle body. if anybody knows the purpose of this screen please let me know.

The screen is there to introduce air turbulence when the air gets sucked in and this agitates the flow, thus providing a better mix when the injectors spray their juice into the com. chamber.

Hope the explanation helped...

Screen = Very Very Minimal Restriction, and very good prevention of objects entering the motor...Which would be really bad!!!

Old post, but in case anyone still cares...

Yes I have removed it. I always clip the screen out with a wire cutter. It's just a nifty little way of making your car less efficient, but quieter to average driver. Supposedly it 'equalizes' the air flow to reach all 4 cylinders at the same time, but it's really just slowing down the flow of fresh air. I've gone back and forth between using using it with and without the screen. I always find it better without..

By the way... what the hell would you be putting down your air intake that it would need a screen to catch it? That's what your air box and filter is for. Unless you remove your air filter, only air should be traveling through the butterfly valve (some oil vapor from the crankcase breather, but nothing a wire screen will catch). Try it yourself if you don't believe me. Cheap enough to replace.
