After changing the fluid, everything was fine until I came up to Rochester, NY (college at RIT) and when winter season came, the 2nd and 3rd gear grind easily when its cold. When its warm up, everything is fine.
I've travel from Texas to New York many times and this time will be my last time to bring my car to New York because my car is an 06 and i put like almost 56k miles on it so I'm going to get a 4x4 truck to use in the snow in Rochester, NY and leave my tC in Texas. Anyways, I did use Royal Purple in like more than 20k miles on it. Now I'm back in Rochester, NY, the cold weather came again and now my 3rd gear grinds when its cold when up-shift and down-shift or downshift when turning while my clutch all the way to the floor. I have to down-shift slowly to 3rd gear when the rpm is below 3500 sometimes but most of the time, I have to down-shift slowly. I think the tC manual transmission have weak synchro...
My opinion is I don't think any transmission fluid will cure anything like Royal Purple says, it'll cure the gear noise but it didn't.
Don't get me wrong, I love Royal Purple, I even use Royal Purple Engine Oil all the time but it just that, they could have done better for the transmission.
I was wondering how much will it cost to rebuild one or replace synchro myself? Thinking about putting LSD when I'm in the process of taking the transmission apart.
You wrote all that because I suggested going to RP...
So, now we have an 05 tranny in an 06 tC.

2005 Tranny $500 at the pull-apart + free labor (doing it yourself)
vs
My friend who decided to have a shop rebuild his synchros = $1570 (and that was with a $200 buck discount).

Now currently have a 4th to 3rd gear crunch problem in the cold. Doesn't happen on an upshift 2nd to 3rd. but from 4th to 3rd it grinds. I'm a little worried now. Probably going to take it to the shop soon.
I had this problem when i would shift out of order. ie. 1-2-3 then when i got to a stoplight, id put the clutch down and just go from 3 to 1. Now, what I do is shift, then down shift in sequence, 1-2-3-2-1 and I have no problems with the shifter catching. Too bad it took me over a year to figure that out.
I haven't had a problem since. Each gear goes in and comes out smooth.
The problems with the reverse lockout also stopped when I would put the car in 1st, then to neutral, before i turned the car off. Before, I would be forced to put it in a forward gear before I could go in reverse, but not anymore.
So... just up shift and down shift in sequential order.
