Default shifter vibrating in 5th gear

I noticed the other day, When im cruising and put the car in 5th gear the shifter vibrates. you can't see it vibrate but if you put your hand on it you can feel it, and it only does it when im pressing the gas. I dont think its suppose to do that. anybody know why it might bee vibrating?

mine does it to. it rattles when you go from no throttle, to being on the gas, and again when you go from on the gas to lifting off the pedal.

I've noticed that on just about every 5 speed car I have driven and it gets worst w/ age. Some cars are very noticeable, any gear, let off throttle and the shifter moves a little.
just some advice: it's not a good idea to rest the arm on the shifter.

The jury's still out on that whole 'keeping your hand on the shifter is bad' thing. No one has established whether its a fact or not and people have been arguing about it for years.

cuz if you fart hard enough you would rip it out of gear.

^^^ yeah, I havent read anything about that in any new cars. In older cars, the owners manual may state not to do it. I'm not sure why..............

Because in most RWD vehicles, the shifter has no linkages or cables-- the shifter arm goes directly into the transmission. If you rest your arm on it, you'll eventually make the gears unhappy, as the weight of your arm will put pressure one way or the other on the shifter arm.

We shift with cables. It's not nearly as important, as we have cable play while in gear. You would basically have to put the car in 2nd and pull hard toward you on the shifter to duplicate the effect in a tC (or any cable shifted car).

I was kind of thinking along those lines. So I'm going to continue driving with my hand on my shifter, and we'll see how it goes.
