Default shifting problem?? ( new to drive manual car )

I picked up my first car tc 2006 used few days ago. I am new to drive manual so please forgive me if I asked some dumb question.
Problem is when I shift from 4th to 5th gear it isn't smooth as expected. Is it because lack of lubrication?? Also it is pretty hard to shift to REVERSE gear. It always stuck in the middle and I need to shift it back to NEUTRAL and try to get into REVERSE gear again again and again...so is there something wrong with my transmission??

I don't really understand what you mean by saying it isn't smooth; do you mean it's not direct because from 4th to 5th you need a little adjustment, you can't just throw it in like 3rd to 4th

Always make sure your clutch is fully engaged and take your time those 2 gears (5th && reverse) need to be fully to the right....you will experience some difficulty from time to time with reverse but you just bring it back to neutral and go at it again.

Hope this helps.

when you go into neutral though let out the clutch and then push it down again before trying to go back into reverse. this is how it says to do it in the owner's manual and it will usually work on the second try

the reverse gear has no synchro so it does not always cooperate when trying to put it in gear and may take a few attempts.

a synchro is a mechanism on each transmission gear that helps them mesh with the engines output shaft because they are rotating at different speeds when you try to shift to the next gear.

well also most likely that use tc has the OEM gear Fluid which is horrible and makes shifting hard also..but since your new to this.....just get use to the car then if you can switch your gear oil to Eneos ill make shifting alot easier and you get into reverse alot easier....and get some shifter bushings to make the shifter feel more precise... not to get off subject but

When you have trouble going into reverse, put in 2nd, 1st, then go to reverse again. Should engage without any problems. This is because of the no sychro gear.

well depends i had similar issues like he did and heard OEM gear oil was no good along with redline..so i switch mine to eneos and all my problems went away..smooth to get into reverse with one try about %95 of the time and better and smoother gear engagement
