Default In the shop with a dead engine

Hello everyone. I have a question and I have been looking all over the forums for help, but can't seem to find anything for my issue. About a month ago, I started to hear a clacking sound from my 2005 tC Special Edition. I took it to my local dealer and they thought it might be the timing belt tensioner or the water pump. To my surprise and delight, it was covered under the Platinum Plan I bought when I got the car! The car has 95K miles on it!! Anyway, they changed those 2 things out and the noise was still there.
Long story short, they are telling me that 3 of my pistons are damaged, that there were metal filings all over the inside of the engine and that they saw sings of scoring on the inside of the cylinders. Also, that my piston rings were damaged/burned . . . I took extremely good care of this car, so I was a little upset by this. I am now on the hook for the entire engine teardown, and still nothing is fixed!
Has anyone heard of issues with the tC engines? Please let me know ASAP. I have seen posts online about issues with pistons having issues in tC engines, but I can't really take those sources as reputable. Also, if anyone knows where I may buy a new/used tC engine, please share your wisdom.
Thanks in advance and God bless!

I had scoring of the cylinder walls at 53k just before warranty was out on it. No idea why it happened only thing i can think of is lack of oil changes. I kept up on my oil changes too. Not much help i know but your not alone!

Didn't you mention a year ago your were hearing noises and asked to find a tC specialist to take it to?

No matter, under the Platinum warranty you should be covered unless you can not prove you did all the required maintanence. In that case you are hosed.
