Default Straight/ Helical Gears

Just for my own future reference I was wondering if anyone knows or trusts someone around the Northern VA area or somewhere near by that does custom transmissions, as in straight cut gears etc.

straight cut gears are only used typically for reverse only.

how in the world would one shift into gear if all of them were straight cut....?
(do i hear grindage?)

ohh.. and the whining... OMG the whining..

Grinding wouldn't really be an issue unless you get spur gears (completely straight). They would have a slight lesser than typical taper to them. The straighter the angle of the gearset the less heat you'd produce and the less end loading of the gear train. Altho I don't really know why you'd need that on a tC unless you're planning on putting down some serious power.

I had a Muncie M22 close ratio 4spd (aka the "Rock Crusher") in my 76 Stingray, the whine is not unlike that of a spooling turbo or the tC CAI whistle, its something you fall in love with. Every other Vette guy that rode in my C3 noticed it and knew what the whine meant I had.

To be honest, I took a ride in my friends WRX a couple days ago *he just got it back from the shop* and I don't know what it was but I feel in love with the whining in 3rd and the open wastegate. His car was putting down 350+ with a quick tune and the set up he has will put down 550+. He's got a full head job, sleeved, pistons, connecting rods, retainers, etc. And what I like about that is that he doesn't have to worry about breaking anything...at all! He can use the power he's got and not be so afraid. lol ohhh yes the whining.

Not sure how extreme I will even go if any at all. I just love the fact of having usable power that you wouldn't be afraid of putting to the ground out of concern for something breaking. He's got 1's and second are helical I believe, 3rd is straight and so is fourth and then 5th is stock *thank god so you don't have to hear that while cruising.*

But yes, I wanted to see if anyone has had their transmission and gear box built? I am mostly dreaming at the moment but I will turbo sooner or later and build from there time permiting and want to have everything right and built right. If that means straight cuts then so be it ..if its not necessary then thats cool too. Just had to check and out to learn.

^ BLUEMEANIE knows what I mean when I say I've fallen in with that sound.

In my dreams I would be visiting the track, I am mostly not wanting to build something were one system is more powerful than the other. I figure that if I get the things that have to work together on the same level, like doing the higher stage clutch with the dezod setup then I will be alright in the long run, instead of patching. Know what I mean? But yes I would be, if I could afford it after all the money for the turbo/tuning and hardware.

Back when I was looking to into turbo awd cars I found these people.
http://www.andrewtechautomotive.com/default.htm
They are in MD, not too bad. Their products look pretty good and seem to get good reviews. Straight cut gears are the ____ especially for clutchless up shifts. Just bang bang bang. Good luck, hope that helps.

Thank you much. Anyone who does PPG in my head *and from what I've heard* has my vote. Thanks for the link tCb00b.
