Default Update w. review and vid

Alright guys, I apologize for the delay.

I go to school in Baltimore, and yesterday i drove from b-more, to tysons corner, to the dealership that was installing the supercharger. If you guys having read my first posts from way back in the day, let me bring u up to speed. when i bought the car, i had the supercharger financed in, although there wasnt a set price. so they charged me $4500 and would credit my tfs account the difference once the price was out.

So supercharger comes out last week and i called to have it ordered, and i speak with the scion sales manager who tells me that the price is going to be $3200 installed. I was ecstatic. i had to ask him twice. yup $3200 installed. So i was happy cuz my account was going to be credited $1300 bucks!

so i drop off my car wed. night and was told it'd be ready thurs. maybe friday. i get the call yesterday head down to the dealer, everythings goin great, i get the receipt.... $4400!!!!!!! it had taken them 12 hrs to install the unit, and blablabla.... i was obviously not happy, and took it up with the sales manager. He had gotten things mixed up and told me the 3200 which didnt include installation.

so after a lot of discussing it got to the point where i was just like.... well you told me that price, and i did not receive a call to tell me it was going to be different... which you are obliged to do. long story short. i walked out of there paying $3500. which isnt bad. it was just a hassle waiting an hour for them to be able to get to that number. so in the end im only gettin $1000 credited back.... whatever. still not bad.

Now, i get in my car... and i immediately realized that i was going to need new tires...given it was wet out, but not even during the huge storms we had here a couple weeks ago did my car do this. i pull out of the dealer... and at around 4k rpms my wheels start spinning... (not even from hard acceleration) put it in second.... same thing... it actually felt pretty awesome.

so i had already driven (my sis's car) from b-more to VA to pick up my car, now i was in for a loooong ride. i went out to Winchester, VA to a shop called AR Fabrication. nothing but great things to say about Howard there. This guy knows his ____, and the shop owns a tC, which is why i took it there.... they obviously love the car, and know about it. He was actually very impressed with the installation but told me it probably would have been smarter to do a header before the s/c. i explained to him my issues w. the current headers out there and he understood where i was coming from and told me about a full exhuast that they are fabricating for the tC.

after a lot of talking, he also told me how easily he could make a good intercooler for the unit which would allow me to increase the psi SAFELY the unit was putting out. this is exactly what i had in mind, and told him that that's what i wanted to do. he also said he had the capability of makin his own pully and if i wanted to could do some testing. he said he'd make aroudn 6 different sizes and slowly increase boost and just see how everythings running. so these are my future plans, intercooler, different pulley, and full exhuast (yes, i only have the trd axle back on right now). but .... this most probably wont happen for another year or so....

so ... the verdict.... i am very happy with the turn out of my car. although i am going to get new tires and probably a new clutch. 192 at the wheels is not bad! and that whine everyone was whining about... you can't really hear it much from the inside... if at all.

i defintely recommend it, because it's a versatile kit that will allow you a lot of messing around once the warranty is over... or right away if you dont care about the warrany.

heres a vid of the 1st run.

(let me know if you guys want the vids of the other 2 runs. i videotaped one just watching the exhuast so we could get the best sound)

Did the tC drink regular or premium fuel during the dyno? I think premium is recommended on the TRD S/C.

No, centrifucals need time to build up boost and have internal gearing so that they run many times the engine speed. They function alot like turbos. The RIPP kit for the tibs doesnt hit boost till its past 3000 rpm, i expect this to be similar.

What will happen if you put regualar gas in a supercharged car?

From what I have seen - the turbos are putting out more hp for the money. Can someone comment on that?

What does it take to change the wheel to get more hp out of the supercharger. I know little about superchargers so this might be an odd question. Im wondering this because if its an easy change then it would be a nobrainer to just swap it out for more hp and then reswap if u have to bring it back to the dealer.

It has a tamper proof cover over the pulley. No "I swapped it out and something happend, so I swapped the orginal back in" type stuff going on with this supercharger.
