Back on topic: the EPA pollution score is suspect, or it must be a comparison with other cars in it's class. If you look on the surface, the Dodge Ram 2WD V8 5-speed http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/22186.shtml has a better EPA pollution score than the tC, but look closer and see it emits 11 tons of Greenhouse gas emissions per year versus 7.1-7.5 for the tC. The Greenhouse gas emissions is what you should be looking for in those numbers, granted, they're not stellar for the tC, but they're on par with other entry-level performance cars.

plus you have to consider it is not a hybrid...i am willing to bet the prius and civic hybird/accord hybrids are way,way low down on the emissions lists....like the bottom end

but for the HP, fun, and price, the tC is the best damn treehuggin tire turning car you can get(as long as you can turn the tires...its a little harder in my auto, but it will still do it)

oh and dont get an exhaust that drops your catalytic converter...thats mega emissions upgrade

I think you can feel pretty good about buying a tC; it's a fairly fuel efficient vehicle comprised of a number of recycled components. And its a ULEV, which supposedly emit fewer emissions at idle than do non-ULEV vehicles at rest. Of course, if you're really concerned about the environment, then you ned to take a more holistic approach in everything that you do, to reduce all the energy you consume. Most of those steps are pretty easy too, and will save you money in the long run.
