tC hard start
#24
Nothing has changed. I posted about where exactly the fuel relay is but got no response so I just decided to live with the problem till it stops working all together. If I find out where the relay is I will replace it and see if that fixes it and I will let you know.

I'm having a very similar problem. I'm gonna point you guys to the right pages on the repair manual. Hopefully one of you can figure exactly what's wrong.
This page will tell you the locations of relays, fuses, etc. I think the relay you want to check is the "circuit opening relay" or the "EFI relay".
https://www.scionlife.com/tech/manua.../tc05_0178.gif
These next two pages are for checking symptoms and suggestions on what the problem could be.
Page 1: https://www.scionlife.com/tech/manua.../tc05_0206.gif
Page 2: https://www.scionlife.com/tech/manua.../tc05_0207.gif
This final page is the official "by the book" way of checking what's wrong on your car. Page 5-379 is the first page, but the whole thing is 10 pages long. So you need pages 5-379 to 5-389. Unfortunately Scionlife requires a subscription to see more than 5 pages of the repair manual a day. You can PM your email address and I can send you all the pages from my repair manual on my hard-drive.
The first page (5-379) can be found here: https://www.scionlife.com/tech/manual/?manual=tc05_0552

Found the exact locations of the relays.
http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/s?v=U_2...MGKA_1&s=relay
Look for Ignition Relay no. 1 and no. 2, and the E.F.I. relay.

I have solved my hard start problem. Here's what I did.
1. Disconnect the battery, and leave it disconnected for a good 20 mins.
2. Take out your throttle pedal
- First disconnect the connector
- Undo the two 10 mm bolts and take out the pedal
3. Loosen the to small nuts (4 mm) on the throttle position Sensor (TPS).
4. Adjust the throttle position sensor to any other position than the one it currently is at. Preferably adjust it to either max adjustment point. Doesn't really matter since the ECU will readjust, and that's the whole point of this fix.
5. Now just put everything back the way it was, and reconnect the battery. Reset your windows and sunroof.
For some reason adjusting the TPS and resetting the ECU worked for me. Since the ECU re-adjust the signal coming from the TPS whenever you reset it, youw would think that just resetting it would work. But I had tried that before and no luck, until I manually adjusted the TPS itself. Maybe the TPS was set in a such a position where it wasn't sending clear signals to the ECU. Either way, my car fires up like it did when it was new. Hope this works for all of you.

Wow great thread! I've been having this problem since I bought my 08 new. It started happening at like 5k and of course I could never re-create the problem for the stealership. I'll be trying that tonight after work. Only thing is it happens so rarely that i might not even notice the fix! Good! haha
