Default tC Turbo Review – please read

I am opening up this topic about adding a turbo to the tC because this is the new extreme for scion owners. Myself and many many many …MANY people want to know the best kits to get and just the details about owning a turbo. I have coworkers telling me to get the turbo because its going to be the best addition to my car …..anddd…I have other people saying that I should not get the turbo because it might be problematic for the future of my car.

Honestly, I want this turbo but my last car had so many problems that I couldn’t take it anymore (that’s why I bought a new car). I do understand that a turbo needs to be taken care of and maintained but what exactly needs to be maintained? I do not know extreme amounts about cars but I do know a midlevel amount.

I know that many smart people read these posts and actually take the time to respond and help out people in need. This is an important post that I am sure will be of benefit to myself and others that are in the same situation as me.

From what I hear, ZPI puts out a good product. Their stage0 setup appears to be nice (but the manifold isn’t cast yet …but from what I hear its going to be). I really like the stage1 kit and think that that is the direction I should go in since it has a piggyback. Can someone give positive and negative feedback about this kit? Also, I was looking at the ZPI exhaust but I hate the way the pipe looks coming out of the back. I want my car to look like a stock setup and that pipe looks like a ricer mod. Any feedback on an exhaust?

Due to the fact that my tC has airbags where a pillar pod would be mounted…what are my other choices? Anybody have any links that I could see good examples that I should consider getting?

I look forward to hear from anybody that knows a lot about turbos and/or people that already have the ZPI exhaust and/or turbo kit.

That pod looks nice but is the worst picture out of all of them.

The only problem with those gauge pods is that in order to hide the wires and hoses you have to drill holes in your dashboard.

As for turbo.... every cars gonna have its problems when you go f/i. But those problems can be cuaght and fixed quick if you do constant maintance, and dont beat the crap out of it.

Right now the zpi kit is the only kit shipping. Dezod is making a kit which is inbetween the stage0 and stage 1 of zpi. He snapped a axle when he slapped slicks on, and the clutch couldnt handle the tq.

So if you wanna go turbo one you need to upgrade the clutch, I say do the flywheel same time... If you wanna run at the track your gonna need better axles... dezod says hes gonna make em soon.

Now theres the thing with the ecm reseting and overriding the piggyback. From what I know I have yet to hear of this actually happening. But everyone worried about it. You can just reset the ecm every month or every 2weeks and thats a quick fix... but if the ecm learns faster then that.... kind of out of luck.

are there specs of this new turbo? I honestly do not think a driver should go over stage0 if he/she likes to ....not beat on the car .....but drive it harder then grandma does (get what im sayin). Are there any engine parts that should be upgraded and do not need the engine lifted? The supercharger I do not think is the right thing for me because I do a lot of highway driving and at 3.5-4k rpm its going to be boosting the whole ride (from what i hear).

ZPI kit uses 16g turbo... and turbo would be spooled to at about 3 - 4k...

THe kit comes with everything you need

As for parts our internals are forged so alot stronger then most engines

Turbo's aren't in boost at 3-4k unless there is load on the engine. If you are cruising down the interstate you aren't going to be making boost.

The S/C works the same way, I dont think it will be in boost because there wont be any load on the engine... I could be wrong, I am new to SCers.

ACtually your wrong... zpi kit uses a 16g it spools sooner then a t3/t4

Our cranks are forged. The rods and pistons are cast. I was under that same impression but after taking my engine apart I found out that I was wrong.
