trans cooler for auto question
I would DEFINITELY get the lvl10 valve body fix... Not only is it cheaper but I blew out my old valve body that IPT did and had to junkyard one for lvl10 to do about two weeks ago. Seems to be holding up very well and has a very nice shift. Plus lvl10 takes custom valve body builds, say you want street they can hook you up with smooth yet firm shifts.
Oh and its not occasional slip when your talking 3000 pound FWD car with a turbo. If you plan on running higher boost I would get the clutches but they are a waste of money on a newish car running less than 9psi. Same with the converter, it really is pretty simple to braze it yourself though. Just very very very very very time consuming.
ok cool, didnt know that about the trans cooler... and im not turbo, prefer to not put that extra stress all the time on my 09... i am running nitrous tho, but only once in a while when track day comes or when im racin someone on the street... so i dont think ill need anything but the cooler and street valve body upgrade
This is what I got for 25 bucks and thought I paid alot for such a small tranny.

More durable ones

You don't need anything too powerful... The 12000 GVW is more than enough.
EDIT: DONT BUY THE ONES WITH A FAN!! You can get a Hayden fan for cheap at o'reileys and mount it to the cooler if you're that worried. Plus it is a b to fit anything in the engine bay.

The difference in trans cooler price is due to design. The cheaper ones use a tube and fin design, where the fluid is pumped through a solid tube with heat fins attached to dissipate heat away. The more expensive like the B&M use a bar and plate similar to a turbo intercooler. This allows for a more compact design for a given GVW. Additionally, the B&M has a short run between the inlet and outlet for when the trans is cold and the fluid viscous. This causes less pressure drop through the cooler when cold. As it gets hot, the fluid fills more of the cooler, it acts like a thermastat. The simpler tube and fin have no bypass and may cause issues at low temps before the trans warms up.
The real question is, how much space do you have available for unimpeded airflow install? To compare, the JEGS 26000 GVW cooler is 10" x 15 7/8" for $40, while the B&M 28000 GVW only takes up 6" x 11" of grill space for $60. I aready am running a turbo w/ FMIC, so my space is very limited. The B&M bar and plate was the way to go for me. It's worth it to spend the extra $20 for an easier install and better performance.
Oh, and 12000 GVW is not nearly enough. it stands for Gross Vehicle Weight, i.e. the transmission sees a load on it the weight of the vehicle. The '09 tC w/ automatic trans weighs in at 2932 lbs, so you want a trans cooler around that size. You can argue that with built in trans cooler in the radiator, you can get away with a smaller cooler, but if you have the space, why not get one fully sized for the load?

Lower grill, like where the radiator is. It needs airflow to cool properly, where did you think it mounted? xB not tC, but here is mine. It's the black square under the crash bar on the driver's side.
Hmm...thanks whoever posted that junkyard site.
I could buy 3k mile AT for $700s & engine for $1200 from a yard thats 15 miles away.
I'll keep that site in mind when my transmission goes next year.
