Default TRD SuperCharger or TRD Cold Air Intake?

What is really the differentce between these two? I know that you can't have both, so I need to know which is better for increasing acceleration. I just test drove both the Manual and Automatic Scion tC today and I think I'm in love. I got home today to think about which one I should get. Can anyone help me decide on Manual or Automatic? I also want either the SuperCharger or the Cold Air Intake performance enhancer.

I customized my tC on scion.com and I'll just post my specs here so you guys can help me out a little.

Not to be an ___ but you might consider a rsx type if you are going to spend that much. To answer your question, the supercharger is better. Its forced induction. Versus the TRD CAI which is just a metal tube that is less restrictive filter at the end. If you are going to buy the trd cold air intake buy an injen cold air intake. CHeaper, and better performance. It won't void you warranty. If you buy the supercharger with the car you will at the end be up at a rsx competitive level. HP wise.

I don't like the 2006 Acura RSX, I'd go with a 2006 Honda Civic Si before the RSX. I think the RSX is a little more powerful than the Si, but the exterior is just not my style. Yeah, I agree that I may be overdoing the accessories. Anything you guys feel like I should pass out on? I'd like to keep it under 20 Grand.

Also the car you configured is an Automatic and the TRD Supercharger is for Manual Transmission only. It bumps the HP on a Manual (at the crank) to about 220 vs the 160 you get stock, the wheel HP increase is more like 137 to 195 based on numbers around here.

The Cold Air Intake will give you some power, but nothing like the SuperCharger would, but you can get a CAI on an Automatic, but for the sake of arguement you really can't compare a CAI to a Supercharger.

I read that you would be fine with a Manual or a Automatic though, so if you want power in a tC and the warranty just go with a Manual and the Supercharger and forget everything else on your list. If you're spending that much money on upgrades you might as well put it into an aftermarket stereo, or well, iunno, your choice..

Sum it up - Manual with Supercharger vs Auto with CAI = no comparison, Manual with SC wins.

I have the iPod HU in my tC and it's awesome, but if you might like aftermarget better.

General concensus is that the stock sub is crap but I'm getting one not because I want loud base but because I want even base tones and trunk space.

You should add in the Side Impact airbags while you're at it, but forget a lot of the other stuff, yeah, k.

I got pretty much what you're looking at and an RSX comparably equipped is no where near that price.
I skipped the CAI and sub, but got the leather and I love it.
Don't be fooled - that setup is much nicer than anything new I saw for the same price.

I will narrow down my accessories list. These are what I am keeping for sure:

Exterior: Ground Effects Kit (G1) $995
Exterior: Pedestal Spoiler (RF) $423
Interior: Scion Security (V5) $469
Interior: LED Illumination: Blue (44) $250
Interior: Sport Pedal Covers by OBX Racing Sports: Silver (32) $79
Sound: Pioneer AM/FM/CD + iPod Capability (P3) $260
Sound: 10" Subwoofer by Bazooka (7S) $449

About the SuperCharger, I first made my decision on getting a Manual, but then after driving the Auto, I liked it more for some reason. I still like the Manual, but I tend to fall on the Automatic side now. I need to go and get another test drive.

Do you really not know the difference between a supercharger and an intake?

Not really, all I know is that the SuperCharger increases HP to 200+. It provides better and quicker acceleration for Manual cars.

Not to be rude...but if you dont know the difference between a supercharger and an Intake...you mite want to either educate yourself or not get either.

Instant message me sometime on yahoo (nickusafgermany)
and I will break it down for you.

But seriously, the difference between something that costs about $200 and something that costs about $4000 are huge. They are nothing simular except the fact that they put air in the engine.

What are your goals for the car? Are you into modding it? Just want someting a-b? Do you have any knowledge of the engine?

Really not trying to rag you, its just the question you asked is way out there...and once the answer is seen I think you will see what we mean.

Try checking out HOWSTUFFWORKS.COM it will explain it all to you.

to sum it up...every car has an intake..the TRD intake is more efficient than stock and will give maybe 8 hp.

A supercharged take the air coming in and pushes it into the engine at a compressed high rate of speed and gives around 50-60 Hp.

Thats a very scalled down version of the 2.

Ill narrow it down a little more for you

Accessories:
Exterior: Ground Effects Kit (G1) $995
Exterior: Pedestal Spoiler (RF) $423
Interior: Door Sill Enhancements (G0) $115
Interior: * Sport Steering Wheel (Gray) (tC_Sport_Gray_Wheel) $279
Interior: 2 in 1 Carpet and Cargo Mats (CF) $145
Interior: Shift **** by OBX Racing Sports: Classic Leather (22) $59
Interior: Sport Pedal Covers by OBX Racing Sports: Silver (32) $79
Sound: Pioneer AM/FM/CD + iPod Capability (P3) $260

This totals out in accessories to $2,355 which the grand total is $19,995! Under 20k.

These are all my opinions. I wouldnt get the fogs, bumper protector, b pillar's, secutiry, led's, 10" sub and the CAI. They are way overpriced from the dealer and you can get all the accessories for about 20% off somewhere else.

Oh yea, if you got the cash and not worried about warranty, go with turbo, if you are worried about warranty then go with the Supercharger, why not order it with the supercharger.

Alright FIRST you should ask yourself what you want to drive...SECOND IF you want to save alot of money and have that money for other mods later and your good with your hands THEN i suggest you do your homework and go to websites for ACCESSORIES you want on your ride.

ALL these accessories can and arent hard to put on yourself or have a buddy help you out. YOU CAN save alot..

There are alot of sites that have all the accessories you want for ALOT CHEAPIER and there toyota geniue parts Exterior: Fog Lights (LJ) $425 Exterior: B Pillar Appliques by Superior Dash (P0) $75
Interior: Door Sill Enhancements (G0) $115 Interior: 2 in 1 Carpet and Cargo Mats (CF) $145 nterior: LED Illumination: Blue (44) $250
Interior: Shift **** by OBX Racing Sports: Classic Leather (22) $59
Interior: Sport Pedal Covers by OBX Racing Sports: Silver (32) $79 Sound: Pioneer AM/FM/CD + iPod Capability (P3) $260
Sound: 10" Subwoofer by Bazooka (7S) $449

ALL these accessories are OVER priced.. I learned that the hard way. THAT IS almost $2000 which you would save around half of that then you can go better wasting on a different aftermarket HU and getting a full ingetrated ipod for better quaility. and the subwofer is not worth it. Finally DONT get the TRD intake yet or anytime soon its not Highway use so IT VOIDs your warranty thats if you care about it and ITs to over priced for no real increase in horsepower.
Hope this helps it would have helped me before i bought mine!

^ I agree with alot of what he says except for the warranty one. NOTHING VOIDS A WARRANTY. The only affectit has is if it is determined to have caused the deffect. No warranty is ever void. Its just a matter of if they honor it. And since its a TRD part...they have to honor it even if it causes the problem.
