Default WeDriveScions N2O Thread... To Follow My Progress

First things First.... Do your research and get everything you need to run safely and correctly.... There is an abundance of info on the web to assist you and I will answer questions you may have as well.

There are a few helpful threads already in existance that discuss N2O and the pros/cons and neccesities to run. I'll just hit the basics and you should be able to follow along a bit as I go week to week getting everything in and tuned and ultimately ran and dyno'd for everyone's reference.

The following thread will give you some basic education into N2O and will help you understand the physics and also the risks involved and ways to minimize that risk.

10 Ten Mistakes and GOOD Info Click HERE!

The following Items are what I am going to use to run my Zex System.
  • Zex 82081 Kit - 4Cyl Universal Import Kit
  • Full Throttle Activation Switch (Zex has this built into their unit, others use a Microswitch, But, Zex has a great module that will allow you to tap your speed sensor wire for other manufacturer's kits, which is the BEST and ONLY way to go.)
  • Window Switch - I am Using an MSD Digital Window Switch Part # 8969 (This turns on the ability to shoot at a set low rpm, (Around 3000 or so) and turns it off before the rev limiter...
  • Blow Down Kit - Because of the hatchback design, you need a kit to ensure that if the bottle overpressurizes and the safety cap blows, that the N2O will not blow into your car, but down through the trunk and underneath (Required at all tracks) It also comes with a diffuser cap to install when you take your tank to be refilled, which is neccesary as well (Prevents the Rocket Bottle Syndrome, which could kill).
  • Purge Kit - This purges the line of any unwanted air or vapors in your lines, NOT neccesary, but highly recommended
  • Bottle Heater - This keeps the tank and the optimal temperature and best PSI for running.
  • Wideband O2 - Not absolutely neccesary, but HIGHLY suggested, as running too rich or too lean is the MAIN reason for engine damage due to running N2O
  • Nitrous Pressure Guage - This allows you to ensure that you are running at optimum PSI.
  • One to two steps colder plugs (To Prevent Detonation)
  • Only run premium fuel when you shoot (Run a tank or two of premium before you plan to run, to ensure good octane mixture)
  • And depending on how high you want to go... A Fuel Booster... I'm running a 50 shot, so most probably will not be neccesary.

This is also about how it will price out for you -
  • Zex 82081 Kit - $500-$600
  • Full Throttle Activation Switch (If you Dont Use a Zex Kit) $78.20
  • Blow Down Kit -$30-$50
  • Purge Kit - $60-$100
  • Bottle Heater - ~$100
  • Wideband O2 - ~$250-$300
  • Nitrous Pressure Guage - On the Tank ~$50, Electric AutoMeter Cobalt in the Cabin ~$200
  • One to two steps colder plugs - Cheap
  • Fuel Booster ~$150

^ Some of those prices are MSRP, and I have been able to locate most of them a reasonably bit cheaper.

Installation is going to come in the next few weeks, but until then.... Some PICS!

Here's a pic of everything on the table...

The Zex Control Unit with Purge T-Fitting Attached

Blowdown Adaptor with Defuser Nozzle Attached

MSD Digital Window Switch

Purge Solenoid

PLEASE KEEP THIS ON TOPIC AS AN INFORMATIONAL POST

This is not a topic to discuss how everyone's engine is going to blow up....

Any Responsible Questions are Welcome!

I'm liking the AEM EUGO.... But innovative makes a couple great setups that all data logging, which I can run in my CARPC when I get it set up... THAT way... I can datalog a run right there, in my car and tweak at the track...

Zex doesn't make a kit adapted exclusively to the tC, but the essential setup isn't "make" restrictive... It's 100% adaptable to work with the tC.... I don't anticipate too many problems... just locating good tap locations for all the neccesary wires and fuel.

I know a few locations I can get the Tach, Still have to find the throttle position, and haven't really looked too much for a good fuel line tap location, but not too stressed about it.

The challenge is installing it clean enough for me... as I'm a clean freak in my engine bay. It has to "Look" right, as well as be able to perform....

It's going to purge out both front wheel wells, with the Zex light purge kit on both sides.... Insanely BRIGHT LED with Purge hole below it... That's going to be the tougher install, as I have to run tubes cleanly from the t-fitting near the Main Control box to the two purge locations, and the neccesary 12v wires for the LED's. Not hard, just really time consuming.

I also have to remove my CAI to drill it out, then clean it insanely well and install the jet nozzle assembly...

All that doesn't even account for modifying my trunk setup to fit a tank in there cleanly and running all the wires and switches...

It's going to be a fun couple of weekends to get everything in their tentative locations.

I still have yet to purchase the O2 setup and heater, and it's winter snowy here, so it'll be quite some time before it runs on a track.... but it'll get there.

I'm pretty locked into the innovate LM1 Wideband.... I can custom mount it, plus run it through my pc's serial port for data logging and tuning.....

Here's the site.....

http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/

Gonna have to save a few bucks... as it runs $350.

nice to see they have a better window switch. I had to buy a pill set and use the 3k for the low, then I bought an adjusable moduel to plug in the high pill output so I could adjust from like 3-8k

Worked like a champ though on the IS300. What up 100shot!!

I was so not happy with going with a pill setup.... and was very glad they made a nice digital window setup as well...

I don't believe innovate has anything set up for pocket pc yet, but that's no matter... as I'm getting my CarPC up and running soon enough, so it'll just stay plugged in there and I can run it on my touchscreen....

Just think.... TCover going up and down with a A/F graph of the drive to the show on the screen behind it... That's a cool setup.

^ I was one of the first to get it.... It's in the list of all my mods in my profile somewhere... LoL.

I really am going to have to suck it up and go TC or SC sometime too.... just to keep up with all the other rides.

You can follow my CarPC thread in Ice and Electrical... It's temporarily on hold, as this project is sucking up all my available funds... just for all the extras....

I anticipate getting the screen and pc setup up and running in late January/February and the N2O installed by the end of this month, with tuning and finishing items (the guages and such) later in the spring as it warms up, as it's pretty much useless right now in the wet/snowy weather.

My Rear lights are going out for tint soon (jonstintedtails.com), along with my gauge and console for Blue/ Red Speedo LED changing (cleancustoms)... Plus I still need my harnesses (Holding out for Christmas) and have some more lighting mods to do...

It's getting there pretty steadily.... But, I'm just one man, and do it all personally, so it's a matter of what project to work on when.... This weekend should be fun!

The basic PLX at even a comparible price doesn't data-log...

I love the 550 dollar unit, as it has an insanely beautiful setup, but it's just too expensive for how much I'd ever really use the wideband...

Already have the purge kit... going dual purge out of both wheelwells with blue ZEX LED purge kits....

Just need the warmer, guages, and Wideband O2 setup to be good to go..

Adding NST pulleys to this mix as well... It'll get there.... It'll get there....

Well... Had to move my speaker setup around to get this to work, so spent the morning building boxes to flush mount the 8's in the floor... instead of my older setup....

Did get the tank mounted though.....
