i got the same transmission ticking. only at idle (auto), when i depress the gas pedal lightly to accelerate, it goes away. that's in a quiet parking lot with slow accel. driving at speed can't tell. road noise and all. started happening about a month ago. owned it new since 2005. yesterday after a 3 hour drive, as i exited the highway CEL came on. going to shop this week. will update on this next week
the thing is that i have injen cai so no air box in my car my cel is on but i have header so no idea if anything else might be wrong
maybe it will sound like a stupid question but were can i check my codes can i do it at auto zone or any other shop

there are a few threads about this. I'll summarize it.....
automatic tc
same noise (and no it's not the usual VVTi clicking noise since I compared it to another auto tc) extremely loud from engine bay
comes in especially at idle
went to the dealership 3 times
1. diagnosed intermittent valve sticking...uhm ok they supposedly put a cleaner but the noise stayed there
2. possible injectors issue...again ok fix it?
nope
So I got a S/C instead
replaced the injectors so no more noise

VVTI = Variable Valve Timing w/ Intelligence. That is probably the noise you are hearing.
Is a loose pulley bad? Of course it is. but if you haven't tampered with it, im sure its not lose.
where to get CEL checked. anywhere that has an OBDII Scanner (dealer, auto parts store, etc.). When you scan the car, make sure you write down the number, and look in the book to see what that number means. If you have a header, you are probably going to get a code that is telling you your cat is bad. you should get a anti-fouler and put it in your spipe if you havent already.

I have this same noise, but it only happens when i release the clutch, I also have a clicking noise at idle, I think it's the hydralic piston that engages when you push the clutch. It needs to be re-lubed maybe?.
