What bolt is this and what does it do?

Hello, what bolt is this and what does it do? We are in the process of removing the engine and tranny. My brother in law removed the 12mm bolt to the right of the fill plug on a 5 speed manual tranny. He says air came out. Maybe it did. Maybe it didn't. We put it back in. I just want to make sure we didn't mess anything up.

Don't know why you'd need to pull that bolt or why 'air' could have possibly come out but I'd put it back in and say you're fine...
