Default 42r too big?

I'm new to the imports I was just wondering if a gt4202r is too big for a stock head 2.4? I'm hoping someone can give me some insight on this.

I'd say it just a tad too big. 35R is plenty.

35R i would say would do the trick. What are your power goals?

42R is perfect for a drag car. The smaller one can still lay down 800-900 WHP and the larger one you mentioned can easily put down 1000+ WHP. It is definately not for a street car on a Tc. They do require a 4 inch exhaust and a 5 inch inlet not to mention at least a 48mm wastegate (preferably a 60mm). You'll need some serious everything to make it work not to mention ditch the AC and move a lot of stuff around to make it fit. Lastly one serious twin plate clutch and driveshafts are required.

Yea, definitely not for a street car. Now throw that thing on a K20 and mmmmm.

I think the perfect turbo for big power in the 2az is the GT3082R....the spool of a GT30R and the power of the GT35R. To me thats perfect.

Unless you are willing to change the stroke and the rods pistons and redo the heads completely, it is way too large. Most cars make power on that turbo around 6500-8500rpms.

Not really. The wheels sizes on a 3082 would be too large of a mismatch and the large displacement of the Scion motor doesn't like the 30R wheel that much unless you use a roomy exhaust housing.

Never too big

I heard what you have accomplished so far

Look forward to hearing about your results when you can really get into it.

Have fun and props for doing something different.

Regards-

Todd

Yeah Jeff had a T3/T67 DBB, which was fairly laggy, but definitely made some nice power even on low boost. Revving his car out to 7500 RPMs was also the saving grace.

Yeah guys I just wanted to hear the differences that people would say. I'm going to post my pictures up very soon. I don't have a cpu at my house so I use peoples that I'm at. Well it spools fairly quick. I have 5 psi by 3000 so that's good to me. Once that turbo hits 7-10psi the bottom drops out and it just goes spool crazy. I had it on my mustang and it worked really well. I'll start posting more but it's not too laggy and makes good power before 7000 grand so it's working really well. I have a tuning issues I'm going to work out but it will be all done very soon. It's been on for a while now I'm just cruising out with it enjoying things. Definately happy with my choice to hook it up. I didn't have to remove ac, no smaller rad. Nothing had to be modified just flipped the coolant hose 180 and removed the stock fans and it's like a glove. Pics to be posted this weekend. Later

I hope they were replaced by aftermarket fans.
