That's about how long it took me and my boy Louis to do it. The second motor, we dropped in with the tranny attached, I would say in about 3 hrs.

No, we took it out from the top. As many times as I have removed a tC's transmission (around 8+ times now, including doing it by myself), I have not once ever touched the subframes bolts. Never removed the subframe. If just removing the tranny, you can rotate (if facing the car it would rotate towards you) the tranny out between the subframe and side wall of the engine bay. Helps to jack up the engine near the oil pan when necessary. Removing the tranny is about a 5-6 hr job for me if I'm doing it by myself, or with someone who doesn't know what they are doing.
