well just spoke to my tuner...

He said that my motor was alot more quite then other tC motors to start with. The problem was that right around the 5500rpm range Id get a jump in knock volts like .7-1volt instead a nice curve in knock volts due to engine noise.

you should be able to change the parameters of the knock retard to add fuel and pull timing based on voltage. if the engine is noisier than most, just set the knock retard at 1.2 volts and tune away. see what i does with a fresh tank of gas first before changing the settings though.

Knock voltage threshold can vary from vehicle to vehicle due to harmonics from rotating assembly removal, the individual turbo setup etc. You need to make sure you do a full RPM pull with conservative timing and enough fuel to guarantee there is no knock and establish your individual knock profile then proceed accordingly.

in the 4500-5k- Range You do need to pull more timing.

Out of the 4 scions ive tuned using ur 1050 box, ive always had to taper timing off to prevent knock.. in that range.

Stock ecu also switches timing from 19 degrees to 15 degrees at this point..

Im asuming it has something to do with vvti.

We tried pulling the timing alittle and still got alittle knock in the same range.

It could be so many things so we are just going to take it one thing at a time. Gas being the first.

Good part is the engine ran really really good till that point. I was alittle nervous getting on the dyno after all the time and work i put into it I just didnt want anythign to break and nothing did.

Another thing i was thinking is maybe it was starting to heat soak alittle bit. Started knocking on like run 15-17 and it was hot a humid plus the alum. intake mani. That prolly will prolly add to the heat soak.

Keep the thoughts coming if anyone else thinks of something....

haha i think in the end we did about 22 pulls? but we would do a pull, crank up the heat and wait a couple minutes in between so it wasn't technically right after the other... but not a giant wait.

Ya i think we let it sit for about 5-10 mins between runs with the fan on high the heater on max.

the car was getting alittle hot. but we let it sit for alittle bit every so many runs.

Prolly could of waited alittle longer but we were pressed for time.

Was a proper car specific knock curve established by you in AEM Pro?

That knock there could be engine harmomics and/or setup rattles and such that triggered the knock sensor, which I have seen a few times.

In all, if it was knock, then the setup or fuel & ignition should be addressed. Either run a richer AFR or less timing. One way or the other you need to slow down combustion. Simple as that. If you still can not control the det, then a higher quality fuel, more efficient turbocharger, more efficient intercooler should be addressed for the power goals and use of the car.

With respect to your timing comment, at what boost level have you observed this? What where the peak EGTs?

Just note that I am not trying to have a pooping match with you, just simply keeping everything 100% factual and educational for the community.
