Default heat shield for s/c or jethot?

From what I have seen there are few people taking heat into consideration. Please dont get me wrong ... a lot of guys are .... but on the other hand A LOT arent. What I am wondering is what would be better and how much better? .... a heat shield to put between the s/c shaft or a jethot coated header? I would assume that jethot would be better since its bringing a lot of heat down into the spipe/midpipe instead of keeping it in the engine bay.

Comments?

both to be honest

its gonna be hard to put a heat-shield to the header...i know from expierence wrapping it helps a lot, but it stinks for a while as the warp heats up(liike 3-4 days, smeels like solder burning)

me, i'll just keep my stock manifold...headers are too raspy for me

IIRC someone had a custom heat shield made that looked pretty good. Anyone remember who that was? As far is which would be best, I think the jethot would be the better of the two but having both would be optimal

i forget the guys name but he had it mounted by the bolts that are attached to the s/c shaft. he has an oil leak (small) problem and there might have something to do with it. i think that when he hits bumps over and over it is causing the shield to move -- but thats just my guess.

Im going to see if getting a vented hood wont help keep some heat out from under the hood, it will keep a more continous course of air coming through the engine bay.

Don't mount it to the supercharger. I suspect that and a combination of heatsoaking caused my issues.

If you have an aftermarket header and want a heat shield, don't go something small and dinky like I did. See if you can re-use the OEM header mounting brackets and get something hardcore made up. Also, don't settle for just a cut sheet of stainless steel. It will only take a few minutes for it to be within 10 degrees of your header.

wrap it

its not too hard, just dont let it get with your skin. wear long sleeves, pants and shoes.

after ur done wrapping it, u need to heat it up a bit to let it cure. then paint it with high temp paint.

works for me. it looks ugly if u rush on it, wrap it nice and it look like a cobra.

i posted it already before but nobody really made a huge fuss on it because its wrap, i cant find it on my laptop right now. but most of the people that hated wrapping and wanted coating instead never really did it or was probly shocked into how much it would cost and the process it takes.

Where'd you get a jethot coating on your header for 30-40 bucks? I'm looking to get my turbo manifold coated. Link would be appreciated.

no I was talking about jethot coating and he was showing a do-it-yourself kind of spray that suposta be good. I know nothing about the spray and honestly not much about jethot but since they have been around for so long and so many happy customers ...they must be good and NOT just hype. I called them direct and the man on the phone said they do the inside and out. I figured it would just be on the outside. If I heard him correct and its both sides ..... there is no question jethot will be a great product.

i think either way you do it , it will help better than stock. as long as temps are reduced its allways a good thing but when it comes to exhaust u actually want to keep the heat inside to make sure that the air coming out doesnt loose velocity(?)
