hey man what year is that motor ? and what camry did it come from. My camry has the 2az and its auto and gets better gas mileage than mine its weird. I dont know if the 09 plus camrys are just built a bit better or if there fuel map is just that much more conservative. That head looks like ____ and would not trust it man. I would just do it right the first time than spending even more money down the road. here is what I would do.
If I was to keep that head than I would send it off to a good machine shop and have them completely go through it and clean it. Have them check the clearances and make sure they are still good. Than If its in your budget get new valves and just replace eevrything that you can to make it that much more better and give it a better insurance. Take it easy when you break it in and remember to change your oil often the first thousand miles. than slowly lean into it with more and more boost. That will ensure that everything is seated and working properly. You might as well do it right man so when you come back from over seas you will have something bad ___ with less problems. Just my opinion.

i see what you mean yev...it looks bad but what really matters is how the clearances are and if the valves are any good...when i see sludge like that id go ahead and replace the valve seals. if thats something your not willing to do then i wouldnt use that head.
this head is from an 03 camry. I know this head is good for building it. I wouldnt mind do it all now if i had the time, but i dont. So i think i would get a new head and then build this one and maybe sell it or something for whatever my cost is going to be to build it.

UPDATE as of today ! I decided to do this once and do this right ! No more trying to get a used head and take it off next year to build.
I will have completely brand new built motor ( short block and head, short block from ERL and head from Dezod with everything except port and polishishing sucks but i just dont have time to wait for the head to be machined ) i understand that because of the cams and timing the idle will be rough untill it is tuned.
Now, how can i break the motor in and dyno it IF i won't be able to really drive it to break it in ?

maybe i can send my map to Paul and he can adjust it or it has to be done on the car ?

wow man gl on that. Glad your going with new parts if you were going to use that head i might have slapped you haha. If ur chaning eng mang systems go with standalone. Its wonderful.
