hey man what year is that motor ? and what camry did it come from. My camry has the 2az and its auto and gets better gas mileage than mine its weird. I dont know if the 09 plus camrys are just built a bit better or if there fuel map is just that much more conservative. That head looks like ____ and would not trust it man. I would just do it right the first time than spending even more money down the road. here is what I would do.
If I was to keep that head than I would send it off to a good machine shop and have them completely go through it and clean it. Have them check the clearances and make sure they are still good. Than If its in your budget get new valves and just replace eevrything that you can to make it that much more better and give it a better insurance. Take it easy when you break it in and remember to change your oil often the first thousand miles. than slowly lean into it with more and more boost. That will ensure that everything is seated and working properly. You might as well do it right man so when you come back from over seas you will have something bad ___ with less problems. Just my opinion.

 

i see what you mean yev...it looks bad but what really matters is how the clearances are and if the valves are any good...when i see sludge like that id go ahead and replace the valve seals. if thats something your not willing to do then i wouldnt use that head.

 

this head is from an 03 camry. I know this head is good for building it. I wouldnt mind do it all now if i had the time, but i dont. So i think i would get a new head and then build this one and maybe sell it or something for whatever my cost is going to be to build it.

so NOW, i need that lower assembly SOMEONEHOOK ME UP !!

 

i've been calling junk yards and all of them call that part upper oil pan.

 

UPDATE as of today ! I decided to do this once and do this right ! No more trying to get a used head and take it off next year to build.

I will have completely brand new built motor ( short block and head, short block from ERL and head from Dezod with everything except port and polishishing sucks but i just dont have time to wait for the head to be machined ) i understand that because of the cams and timing the idle will be rough untill it is tuned.

Now, how can i break the motor in and dyno it IF i won't be able to really drive it to break it in ?

 

u could always tune ur idle and cruise. Just be sure not to wot it, which u should know is a no no for break in anyways

 

Hmm that can be done with FIC ?

maybe i can send my map to Paul and he can adjust it or it has to be done on the car ?

is there a guide or tips on what and where to adjust on FIC ?

I guess FIC gurus can help me out here if it has to be done on the car.

 

yes you can tune idle and cruise...its just the fic cant really tune for the bc cams.

to be quite honest with you i really dont know how the engine will do with the bc cams and the fic....it may not be as bad as you think then again it could be a nightmare to deal with...i just dont know. maybe paul or don or hell even joe could help guide you on this one cause i got nothing

 

wow man gl on that. Glad your going with new parts if you were going to use that head i might have slapped you haha. If ur chaning eng mang systems go with standalone. Its wonderful.

 

i'm not changing to standalone yet because i', deploying soon and i wont be able to play with it much. I'll get it after i come back,

i dunno about cams and piggyback. i heard its right to do it with a standalone. call up a couple of places like Ptuning or dezod they might be able to help.

Hey guys what kind of exhaust manifold gaskets are you using ?

i was looking online and found alot of FEL-PRO or something like that, are they good ? in the description they say its OE quality.

 

iv never had a problem with fel-pro...id trust em with whatever...thats just me though...im sure someone has had a problem with em.
