i can see ur valid points drax.. thing is... you cant find a 06-07 sti for 20k like i did the evo 9. subbies hold there value pretty well.. i bet nobody can find me an 06-07 sti with less than 50k miles for under 22k.

not to mention the evo id be getting already has stage 3 clutch, CF hood and trunk, full exhaust, turbo timer, boost controller, bov, all intercooler pipings and intake.

yeah, but downtime is not the issue here, its money, unless money is no object, be ready to drop big bucks for when something goes wrong on the evo!

yea im sorry to say it but all evos and sti's are DOGGED!!!!! i mean especially one thats modded, ive been in the dsm world for quite some time, its little things that add up and yes count on replacing turbo, transfercase, and yes the trans, btw NEVER take your car to DTM around here they have earned the name (Dynomite.Tuned.Manifolds) this is because we have seen mutiple manifolds from them having a 38mm wastegate runner almost completely block reducing exhaust flow to the wastegate causing overboost which has blown two motors of my friends

Actually, that's a huge misconception with those kinds of cars. The owners take excellent care for them compared to things like a Ford Focus or Toyota Corolla. They're definitely driven hard, but those cars were built for that and they can take a beating.

I like the Evo over the sti. After working on many of them that decision was easy. We have 2 STI's at the shop now with blown motors, one is completely stock. Plus my friend just expired his motor with minor mods. The pistons are not very strong and cracking a ringland is easy to do. The 07 STI is infamious for clyinder #4 going out, in stock form.

Also, Subies are designed very odd. Ever changed the spark plugs on one? lol. I found the trick is to undo the 2 motor mounts and raise the motor 2 inches with a jack, this especially helps when doing a leakdown test. The boxer design makes since in a porche with a dry sump system to keep weight low, but the subie has the headers running under with a regular oil pan.... so I dont know what the point is. Transmission wise, they seem to hold up better yes. I have replaced a couple though.

And the EVO X, that seems to have good potential. If you get one of those, 1st thing to buy is a Cobb access port. They put 225whp stock on our dyno (same as evo 8-9), and with just a 3" s-back and loaded Cobb base map it made 296whp. Impressive. With an STI it takes much much more to get to those #'s.

With the Evo 8-9, the motor is great. All you have to do is put ARP head stud and it will handle a lot of power. Add cams and a fuel pump with a 3" turbo back exhaust... get it re-flashed and you have a 80whp gain.
Transfer case is the weak link. But there are upgrades. Shepard makes upgraded transfer cases and transmissions. We have installed a few of those, there are different stages depending on your expected hp.

On the track, Evo's seem to dominate.

When I went to put the Order in for my tC, they had an Evo IX MR at the Lot.
Before I Test Drove it, my Salesman had told me himself, and every other Salesman, Tech, and Porter there had beaten the hell out of it.

i don't know justin, a stock sti blowing it's engine? cars don't blow themselves up very often, it is usually operator error, like going 100 mph and shifting to 2nd gear. yeah, i'll admit STI's look like a PITA to work on, i saw a bunch of them at a dyno day in delaware with sapan. the engine bay looks pretty cramped and alittle complicated, and then when you want to make more power, you're limited by the tiny less efficient TMIC, and you have to change it to an FMIC, and then turbo is kinda tiny and the manifold is another complete piece of contruction. but like you said, Evo's dominate at the track, but for day to day use, i'd rather have the STI
