While it doesn't have to be CARB legal, I'll be happy if it passes SMOG.

Everyone is doing turbo's. I'll be holding onto my money until the smoke clears from all the tire smoke and boost going on. Can't wait till people are actually in mass production mode.

Yeah, the smoke is not from tires - don't kid yourself - nobody's doing turbos.

I was speaking in terms of the compaines, ZPI, Dezod, etc...

Hey Joe,

Before you get to far into the project. I would recommend a dual temp guage for pre and post inner cooler temps. You will have to tap the pipe to get the sensor in there, but it will allow you to do a few things. One tuning will show up on the sensor a bit, and two you will know when your IC needs to be larger, flow more, or simply just be cooled with the aid of a mister. You may be surprised that your current IC will be good enough with a mister for a stage two. If not, because of flow, then you can go larger.

The down side to misters is that some tracks (road racing, not drag) won't let you on because you may put down a small amount of water.

Laterz.

Though I agree on using temp gauges to monitor temp changes and efficiency of the intercooler I think we'll be avoiding these tests. We've done enough homework and had the intercooler BUILT from scratch just for our setup. The custom sized end tanks, fin design, dimensions, and core size all play a role on our setup. It's efficient enough for up to around 300whp without any problems. Sure a mister will help, but that's more money, maintenance, and not allowed (as you said) on certain tracks, including the dragways.

The stage 2 will consist of a larger intercooler simply because of the large amounts of CFM and boost levels. We'll be running double digit boost and with a larger turbo, capable of a near 500whp setup. The current intercooler just isn't enough to flow what we need for the stage 2. The only thing the same in the stage 2 is the wastegate and BOV.

I'm shooting for $3k but the parts alone cost us more than that, so it all depends on how much we save if we start buying a lot at a time. It'll probably be between $3000 and $3500. Time will tell and I'll keep all of you posted as always.

Quick Update: Ran into some minor probs with the current manifold, expect more news next week with a new design. We want something that looks good, but performs better. Clearance is an issue, we just want everything to look like it's meant to be there. Patience will pay off.

for your stage 1 kits, how much psi are you running. ZPI says they can get 300whp for 10psi. Just wondering how much for yours.

Small and quick update for those getting ready for our kit. We spoke with ACT again today and they finished the clutches and are ready to ship. Our prices still stand, check it out in the sales section. We are one of the few companies already stocking these. ACT is certified for some specific race use so buy yours today and know you can take it to any track you wish. Have fun!

The street setup we're selling for the $399 is not a puck base. It's a real disc with a very smooth engagement, and still holds 340wheel torque. The puck systems are meant for +450whp applications. We sell those too.

Ahh

I'd highly recommend against the puck based clutches. my previous car had one and it destroyed my leg/ankle (admitted, my leg/ankle has had 4 surgeries and lots of other crap) to the point of having to add a knee brace to my already existing ankle brace.... and I drive a miata/explorer that also have upgraded clutches and never have a problem. Other than that I have a friend with a turbo 3rd gen eclipse (right at 300whp) who is bending axles and breaking stuff because of his puck based clutch.

With the disc based clutch setup holding 340whp, i would very much recommend against the puck.

Then again, if you want to build up your left leg then pucks are for you!

Yeah you'd want to stay away from those pucks or get real friendly with your local police officer... cuz you'll be chirping first a lot. ACT street clutches have a really sexy engagement, and hold like mad. They're exactly what you'd need really.
