Oil Return Question
Did you use SS braided lines? I read that Parker lines or rubber lines may not be suitable for hot oil as they will eat into the material over time and cause problems
I'm going to swap out to SS lines as I figured they tend to retain their shape and by nature less flexible, hence when the engine rocks backward, chances of the oil return coming in contact with the hot DP is minimalise or kink chances reduced as compared to the supplied rubber hose thingie
Hopefully no oil backing up and seals going out...

this may not be the right thread for this but what do you guys mean by snap ring? I got the first pin out (when u take the bolted ring off) but i cant seem to figure out what u guys mean by 'snap ring.' any help is appreciated.

No that is to small. The nipples on the ZPI kit are 1/2 pipe thread and are designed for 3/4 ID hoses. Do not use heater and/or pvc hoses (I did the homework) as these will brake-down and swell under the presence of oil. If you must get a new hose I suggest getting a silicone hose (like the one ZPI provides) and/or a teflon hose that is has stainless-steel braiding over it. Remember that the oil return line is in the line of sight of the down-pipe so it will get a lot of radiant heat -Don't go too cheap. I found a company that sells the silicone hose it's not expensive about $3 a foot. I can send you the link if you need it (do google "silicone oil return line for turbo" ) That's what I did.
Damn I thought I had it! The car started to smoke again today. Im running out of ideas here... Im using a SS Braided hose and for some reason its still smoking. If someone has a pic please post it. I want to see if I can adjust the way the line enters or something..

I have mimicked Eric's setup in the other post. It was very easy to do especially if you have already clocked the turbo once before. The only difference is I actually am using a high pressure hydraulic hose from a local hardware store. It has a layer of steel braid (not stainless) that is very strong (and fairly stiff) and very beefy. It was $2.50 a foot and really was a bargain but it was difficult to use/install.

That's a 45-deg 1/2" NPT brass elbow. Local hardware store will have this if they sell "hardware". put a closed thread nipple 1/2 NPT male on oil pan side and the 1/2 NPT to 3/4 hose barb fitting on the other and you're set. I tried to do the 90-deg elbow when I put the kit on my car but the hose always wanted to be too close to the down-pipe. Even tried the barb-fitting directly on the oil pan but my hose was too short.
With my setup the hose came out to be 16" long.

I'm not a turbo expert or anything but could it be a blown seal in the turbo somewhere maybe? You shouldnt be getting any smoke out the exhaust for the oil return line resting on the DP. Have you taken off the DP to look for burnt oil build up on the turbo? How long do you have your TT set for? The tC take a long time for oil to cool down. If you dont let it cool then the oil PSI will build from all the heat inside the turbo housing and could cause a seal to blow. It take at least 5 minutes at idle for the oil to cool to 215 degrees. The oil restictor isnt a bad idea either. Just some thoughts.

Keaon, before you give up -check your oil supply line. My line had a perfect .125 orfice at both ends. 1/8 drill bit fit like a glove in it. I almost have 1,000 miles on my turbo it's too early to tell if I'm going to have problens -but it appears to be working okay...knock on wood. How many miles do you have on your turbo?

I'm gonna be re-installing a new oil return line tomorrow morning so I'll see if I can't rig it up somehow in front of the dp without having to worrying about heat this time
The oil supply line to the turbo has a small hole "orifice" that helps to reduce some of the oil pressure from the engine block so it does not go where it shoudn't in the center cartridge oil log.
If your oil line has the wrong size orifice maybe this could be the cause of getting oil in the exhaust side of your turbo.
So your car is a garage queen? Mines my daily driver so I have no choice but to start and finish projects before monday morning

I would ask for a completely new turbo. Something isnt right. Just so I understand more of what your saying. You think the oil return line is backing up and forcing the hot used oil in the turbo? If thats what your saying I dont see how thats possible. Maybe I got it wrong though. Have you called Kenny at ZPI to see what he says?
You said in a earlier post you were getting smoke out the rear exhaust? Is it white or blue? Does it go away after the car warms up or doesn it get worse as you get on it?
