In the mean time, you can go buy a pressure tester ($30 at O'Riely's Autoparts).

PS.....Nice Catch can setup. Is that a 20G turbine?
Yep that's the 20G.
Nioce...how much boost you running? Dyno'ed/tracked it?

Not much unfortunately. Only 4lbs. Dyno'ed about 224whp. I was told I needed a boost controller, but now that I think about it, it's probably just the wastegate spring.

I'm going to call again and find out, if so, I'm going to get a retune so I can hit my potential and get a lot of track time at the Longo Scion Triathlon on Friday.

Did you buy the compression tester. You can go ahead and do the test without my vid, as there are instructions inside the package. I'm just doing the vid for the hell of it. But give a brotha some time...LOL. I'm putting the intercooler pipes back on the tC, and buttoning everything back up. I'll do the vid when I'm done.

Yes this is rather normal on turbo cars. The crankcase gets excessive pressure, which it can not easily vacate, so it pushes it out through the vent shaft. Sometimes this has oil in the vapor as well. A catch can or breather can will solve this issue for you.

I'm in the process of doing the leakdown and compression test, but I took it to Corner3garage, and they say I might have a blown engine. I have a lot of vapor coming out of the oil catch can, and there's oil around the oil cap. I also gave a strong gas/exhaust smell on the cabin.

Bad news. My engine's shot. The Compression test came back good, but the leakdown was not so positive. Apparently, my rings are bad, and that's why I've been leaking so much oil and having so much vapor coming from the oil catch can.

I was told that's a part that can't be replaced, so I have to get another one...

All because of my f$#&ing BOV and/or Air Filter.

Hmmmmmmm sounds fishy.....

Compression test good = bad rings.....thats odd....

Leakdown test bad = something in the head ie valve seats

What were you told that cant be replaced? And none of this has anything to do with an air filter or BOV.

Unless there is allot you are not telling

Here are the results of the tests:

Compression:

Cylinder 1= 138 PSI
Cylinder 2 = 126 PSI
Cylinder 3 = 125 PSI
Cylinder 4 = 127 PSI

Leakdown:

Cylinder 1 = 25%
Cylinder 2 = 28%
Cylinder 3 = 33%
Cylinder 4 = 26%

Anyone want to post stock results so we can compare?

If the compression test comes back good, there is no reason to do a leak down. A leak down failure can mean bad rings too though.

+1 on what part Can't be replaced?

Shouldn't the compression be higher than those PSI #'s?

I talked to the guys at Scion-parts.com who build motors and whatnot, and I should be able to salvage most of my block. I suppose I'd need new rings, pistons, rods, and bearings, but at least the engine would be able to withstand more horsepower.

Sucks, because I'm getting a lot of conflicting info!

Your compression should be in the 170's, not 130's and 120's. So, your compression is not good. Yeah, as long as you don't have a hole in your block, you only need to replace the inside stuff. Like you said, more power though.

I'm going to talk to the guys at Dezod today. I really don't want to go through the hassle of going back to stock and praying Toyota lets me go through warranty.

What would be some of the causes of having such low compression and the leakdown problems?

The weak ringlands crack. It is part of the top of the piston. The pistons are designed for fuel efficiency but not for making lots of power. Compression tests are not always accurate because if the cylinder gets some oil it brings back allot of compression. For example you take the compression of a cylinder and it comes up 130 psi and then you add a some oil into the plug hole and retake the compression it will go up close to normal. Leak down tests don't lie though.

I don't think I've ever been over 4 pounds of boost, so I was making THAT much power. Only around 224.

Well it depends on what your EMS is doing to your afr and timing and how you drive it. You can easily blow these engines even with a good tune at 4psi. Ever hot box a cigarette? Too many puffs to soon and you ruin a perfectly good smoke.

That would be unethical. They won't though, they know motors just don't loose compression.

Soulquarian -

It was nice meeting you today. Not to often I get to meet Scionlife members face to face.

Please keep me posted and let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Regards-

Todd
