Default Quick S/C Question.

OK so I was just told that the hp gains you see from a supercharger only peak when your damn near redline. I was under the impression it winds up and continually increases power all the way through to and peaks at redline just like a turbo...

however I was just told when a turbo spools up at lets say 3500 rpm's and lets assume you get 300 whp with your turbo set up. It was said your getting that 300 whp AT 3500 rpm's. Dont you only reach your max power near redline with a turbo JUST like a supercharger?

please advise.

A supercharger's boost is linear and rises with the engine's rpm. You will get 8 pounds of boost at 1500rpm and 8 pounds at 6000 rpm. With a turbo, you will see your peak numbers when you reach full boost, which is usually near redline.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure that's how it works.

you kinda got it right on the linear part...but linear means that as the rpm's increase...so does the boost. so at 1500 rpms, you might have like 3 lbs of boost where as at 5600 u will have 8 lbs

yea man thats EXACTLY what I thought.

I was JUST told that with a turbo your reaching your full hp when it kicks in to where with a S/C you wont see that till redline. (which that part is true I know. but the turbo peaking when it kicks in? i think not.

the turbo spools up depending on the size of the turbo.

smaller turbos spool up faster(lower rpms), but run out of breath at higer rpms.

larger turbos take longer to spool up (higher rpms), but when they do, they will make much more power at those higher rpms.

now, a turbo charger will deliver power in a very abrumpt manner. you have turbo lag (delay in power) until the turbo spools up, but a supercharger delivers power in a linear manner, similar what it would be like with a bigger engine.

Realistically its like 1lb at 3000rpm+wot and peak at red line+wot.

Sounds about right. If you don't mash the pedal to the floor, you don't get much boost. You have to be at WOT to see any serious psi

rofl bro knowing about how a turbo and S/C works... (which I do) has NOTHING to do with selling the damn car...I am not gonna go sell a scion tC to a 16 year old chick by telling her the difference between a Turbo and S/C.

You obviously don't know how a turbo or S/C works with the way you wrote this post.
