Default replacing my head today

Any tips or tricks to make it easier while doing it in car? Ive pulled the engine a few times but never pulled the head by itself. does the timing cover have to come all the way off or just the top bolts, and where is our timing chain tensioner? Thanks is advance!

just pull the entire engine, and take the head off when its on a stand. Easier and less headaches.

its high torque on those, i hope you bought arp studs for replacements. timing chain tensioner is on the back of the motor, two nuts 10mm and it comes out.

Well I decided againt replacing it, the donor head seemed to have some problems. Reason I was replacing it was because I have a loud tick that showed up after going a bit low on oil. I have checked valve clearances and they are all perfect.

I'm no longer turbo'd but still getting some blow-by. What are my other possibilities? I dont think it got low enough to damage the lower part of the engine, so I dont think its rings. my #4 plug looked terrible the rest were fine. I've never dealt with ticks and knocks before so this is driving me nuts.

you'll still get blow-by with these motors, you need to do a compression check and leakdown test.
