Round 2
Well I began the turbo journey on my tc last yr - after having some issues with a few parts and running low on cash - i had to sell everything - than nearly 3-4 months later i was dirving down the tollway and lost oil pressure at 80+ mph (not boost at this time). Spun a rod bearing and had VERY audible rod knock and wouldnt maintain oil pressure. Had her towed home and took out motor #1 and tore her down - come to find out what caused the issue - for some reason the secondary balance shaft bearing spun and locked the shaft up - it sheared that pos plastic gear on the shaf and my oil pump sucked up the plastic bits causing the loss of oil pressure. For while i planned on building the motor but decided for an auto id never run enough boost to make it worth it. So i got lucky and found a motor froma junkyard out of an 09 with only 4000 miles on it! and better yet it was within dirving distance and only $900. Motor was than installed (after the car was down for about 3 weeks) and I ran her n/a up to TODAY!
On to today (well yesterday now)...
I decided the only cure for my addiction was BOOST!
I began assembly of setup number 2
Ive posted pics below of everything - sorry no construction pics - i work to get things done and not take pics
lol Also heres a rundown of the setup - btw all work is done by MYSELF
ALso apparently VHT Flameproof doesnt work too well on cast pieces - it holds up great on the downpipe and dumptube but not the mani
Turbo - ITS T3/T61
Mani - EBAY!!!!! lol - i never recommend buying things off ebay but a cast part is a cast part - i used this on my previous setup and it held up great so hey stick with what works right?
WG - Turbonetics Evolution set at 8 psi
BOV - HKS SSQV
Piping/Intercooler - Dezod stainless piping and fmic. Piping worked great with this mani only piece that needed to be modified was the hot side from turbo down - jus had to cut off about 3 " off the top to make up for how much lower the turbo sits with this mani
FUel - 650cc RC Injectors / AEM FIC
Misc - Solid motor mounts, removed balance shafts, Cheapo boost guage, Autometer Wideband, BIG ___ tranny cooler ;), Modified fan setup, custom guage pod, and probably other things I cant think of at the moment.
Street tuned at the moment but im farely well versed with the FIC and very well versed with tuning in general so im trying to find a dyno locally that i can pay to make pulls on and tune the vehicle myslef - currently running great though i sitll have a bit to work on partial throttle boost and high vac. Maintaining 11-11.6 afr on w0t. Very smooth
Also downpipe, exhaust, etc all fabbed by myself.
Oh yea and the hood is a black replacement - not cf and not trying to have imitation cf lol - in an accident and i dont wanna claim it on insurance due to no damage to the other vehicle so i replaced the hood and itll be going to a freinds paint shop in a week

wow man it looks really good!!!! Congrats!! Cant wait to see the dyno numbers!!
Also congrats on doing the work your self no many people can do that and from what the pics looks like you did a really nice a clean job!!

Downpipe i made myself - theres this really cool place called columbia river mandrel bending - they ahve cnc laser and plasma cutting along with like 5 cnc mandrel benders in house so you avoid the middle man charges and get flanges and mandrel bends at the best prices possible. I picked up a 5 bolt ford flange for $15 and two 180* mandrel bends for like $14-15 ea than cut and weld
SOmeone correct me if im wrong but i BELIEVE cast iron can be ceramic coated so ill probably be talking to hpc (hi performance coatsings - they have a shop here in okc) to see what itll cost to have the dp, dump tube, mani, and turbo exh housing all ceramic coated
Exhaust is 2.5 - dumped setup - it has an s pipe than is ran through a glasspack and dumped basically under where the backseat is. Setup in total was probably in the neighborhood of $1800-2200. Plus MANY hours of fabrication and install work. Most parts were bought used - only things i can think of specifically bought new (of the major components) were the fic, manifold, and wastegate.
SO anyone know any tricks to removing the exhaust mani studs - i have one that is stripped - noticed it last night when the nut looked loose i tried to tighten it a bit and noticed it wouldnt tighten - i dont feel like pulling the manifold + turbo and all so im wondering if anyones got one of these out easily w/o removing the manifold - if not looks like ill be pulling the mani saturday
