Default s/c troubles

so i have that s/c from scion. i have replaced the rod and rebuilt the s/c, replaced the seal and all the bearings. back in august.

last night after work it started squeaking again. so, i put grease on it, it faded. went to dinner, got out to the car, started it to have the rod sound like it was running a stick against the spokes of a bike.

ive never redlined it and never neutral dropped it. ive pushed it to 6k rpm, but thats just getting on the highway and maybe a couple of accidental downshifts. i dont race it.

i really love the scion tc, its my first manual. im getting close to selling it though..

could there be an alignment issue? or could the cold killed the seal? suggestions?

the bearings on the s/c are very picky, when you change out the bearings you have to make sure the shaft spins smoothly and that the housing is not squeezing too tightly on the bearings. Other than that, if you have a grease fitting installed the bearings should last a while.

I did add the grease fitting. I didn't get a chance to play with the rod before my dad put it back in the car after he got it from the shop. So, that could be it.

Could be, just always remember that the root of all issues are the bearings. You need to make sure they are spinning freely and there is not extra stress or friction on them. The bearings will always fail first and then cause a bunch of other problems.

I would recommend also changing out the Coupler due to the fact that it also starts to wear down. You can find some on ebay by typing Supercharger coupler. It will not say it can fit a Scion but it does. I brought one for myself and it grabbed the 3 pin bushing tighter than the OEM.

This, this is also why you need to take care when installing the SC and getting everything lined up before tightening. You can but extra unwanted stress on the bearings.
