Default tdo5 on wil a tdo6 intake side?

i am no way a turbo expert, lol. i was just curious if anyone knows if my big evo iii turbo could be compatible with a 20g tdo6 intake side? while keeping the evo 3 echaust side. and if not would i just need a new compressor wheel on the intake side? or is it much more than that?

if the wheels are the exact same size, then yes it will work. do some research on the mitsu turbos and see if there the same.

BUT, fyi, if you take off the other wheel and put a new one on, you have to get it rebalanced, because it messes up the the original shaft balance

well as of now im just trying to see if i could just swap the compressor housing from the evo 3 16g to the 20g. im not sure if it will fit though. so if i dont remove the compressor when i shouldnt need to be balanced. but as of now i dont know the sized of the compressor wheels seeing if they were interchangable or not

ok found your answer.

so no, you cannot swap the housings, due to the fact that there are different size compressor wheels.

ok so im just thinking. right now i have a td05 16g. and i want to put a 20g compresser housing on the td05. so that will work and fit as long as i get a new compressor wheel to fit in the 20g compressor housing? and then that would just make it a 20g tdo5?

yes you would need to get a new sized wheel to fit the correct housing, then you will need to get a complete re-balance because the wheel is different. otherwise it will vibrate itself to pieces.

Make sure you do not get a cover or wheel made for a reverse spinning turbo like the current Evo's use. Here is something that will work.

oh. ok thanks. i wouldnt have thought about reverse spinning turbos....

but unfortunetly the turbo i was going to buy was sold...there was a td06 20g on craigslist and i needed a rebuild and a new compressor. but i got the price down to 30 bucks so i was going to throw the 20g compressor on my 16g. but he sold it before i got to it.
