Default too rich?

If you run to rich at full throttle are you able to make boost? Or will there too much fuel that you can't?

running rich means that the car is injecting too much fuel, it has nothing to do with whether or not the turbo/super charger is generating boost. boost is how many PSI the compressor is forcing into the cylinder.

I dont believe thats quite what he was asking, to answer OP's question, Ive never seen a car run so rich that it wont make boost, before it gets to that point, youll have horrible ignition breakup from too much fuel. If youre experiencing an issue where the car isnt making boost, and running very rich at wot, its likely a coupler came off or some other type of extremely large leak in front of the MAF sensor.

When I'm at full throttle my afr is 10.0 (maybe lower) cause that is the minimum reading my gauge goes to. My boost gets stuck at 5psi. I have a Tial wastegate with a 10psi spring. The funny thing is sometimes i'll get stuck at 5psi and then it'll spike right up to 10psi. What could be causing this?

I'm having a similar problem with my '08 turbo. When I'm in partial throttle or WOT, the AFR's show 10 (likely lower) and get lots of sputtering, black smoke out the exhaust, and boost hang up anywhere between 1 & 4 psi. We tried different spark plugs (NGK Iridium, 1 step colder) both gapped to 0.030~0.036 and ungapped (0.044), no difference. Running a blow thru setup and checked for air leaks: none found, unless there is one at the throttle body coupler. Sometimes while driving, it'll boost just fine, then the next pull it'll break up. Any ideas? This is the weirdest phenomenon.

I found out what was causing the problem. It was my boost gauge. When i boost leak test it the boost gauge needle gets stuck at 5psi then it spikes up to 10psi. It shouldn't get stuck like that during the test. So I bought a new autometer gauge a whoala 10psi without getting stuck.

Try looking at the boost gauge when you do the test. Make sure the needle climbs steadly and dont get stuck.

I'm running AEM Tru Boost (digital) so no needle to get stuck. It reads boost from vac to 7psi (wastegate spring) just fine, it just that the motor "hiccups" and misfires once boost builds and it's getting flooded with gas (AFR's at 10 or less). I'm running the Dezod S1 kit w/ blow thru maf, 550cc injectors, catted downpipe, AEM FIC w/ Boomslang harness.

We've tried swapping FIC units to see if it was a bad unit, but still no luck. My tuner has tried altering maf signals, o2 signals, fuel amounts, zeroing everything so the car is basically running with no input from the FIC, and they all result in the same thing.

If you have a vacuum block make sure u use it. It helps. How are your vacuum lines hooked up? Check your primary o2 sensor, it may be faulty. I had to switch mine out.

Problem solved. The map I was running was overly rich. Got a new one that is a bit leaner and making boost with no problems. I suspect the o2 map was too rich. Now dealing with gas sputtering out of the exhaust at idle after starting up. Not sure why it's doing this. I disconnected the MAF pipe (to the throttle body) and could smell some hints of gas. Any idea why this is happening and how to fix? Stuck injector maybe?

Fixed. One of the injectors wasn't fully seated in the rail. Changed O-rings on all of them just in case. Gas smell is gone, as is the idle hunting whenever I'm stopped.

What engine management are you running? Try disconnecting the battery for 15mins to reset thr factory computer fuel trims, then reconnect, start and let idle for 10 mins with everything turned off.
