Default TRD Supercharger Air Box "trumpet" diffuser

Sooo-

Got the supercharger installed this fall, and am now attempting to find ways to improve on the power this thing can pull out. I'll get one of the NST 9.5 pulleys as soon as it's available again. I've already removed the hydrocarbon filter, but I'm also wondering what the purpose of the white plastic "trumpet" diffuser is. I can only imagine that it is supposed to keep the incoming air streamlined and in the same direction, but is it really worth the extra resistance you're adding?

Any help is greatly appreciated, I haven't been able to find ANY information on this.

I left mine there for the reason of concentrating the air going into the s/c. Btw tell me ur opinion of ur Bosch 110 bpv. I'm considering in getting it.

I didn't notice much of a difference when I switched to the 110, but it was also only 40 or so miles after the supercharger was installed. The only real reason that I got it was because I knew the TRD supplied BPV wouldn't handle any more boost (for an upgraded pulley).
I read a bunch of opinions that said the ECU 'learning' doesn't affect performance, but I swear that it pulls harder after 150 or so miles than it originally did.

Anyway, any other opinions or testing done on the air intake diffuser? I don't know whether to toss it or leave it- and I won't be putting a CAI in.

trumpet is there to help stop air turbulence before it hits the maf sensor. Safe concept as the honeycomb mesh found on most g/m sensors. Can be removed without much difference.

Thanks for the info, confirms what I suspected. The thing that bothers me is it seems like it would add resistance to sue flow both because of the plastic mesh on the inside of the diffuser, and how close the diffuser inlet sits to the back side of the air box. Guess i'll just have to do some testing...

Honestly the s/c builds so much velocity that it won't matter very much, especially on a stock s/c. But testing/experimenting is fun!
