Research! read as much as possible and find out as much as possible from people that know turbos. While this webstie is great the knowledge that you can get here about turbos is limited to peoples posts. Read articles talk to people with aftermarket boosted engines that do their own work.

Really, I think you dont learn much about something until you have it. For instance i didnt really learn about fixing a car till i owned my own car... But if financial issues are a problem itz not a good idea to get turbo...

Good luck man and enjoy your ride.
Don't worry, I'm probably the youngest on these forums. As for turboing your car? If you are asking these questions then you probably shouldn't do it. If you still want to do it save up and get little stuff here and there in the meantime.

Seriously the biggest issue with the turbo kits on the market is the loss of the primary emission control device in the car, the catalitic converter. Depending where you live this will be a huge problem in the future when you take the car to inspection and they scan the OBDII computer. Inspection failures are recorded by the state and when you sell the car even if you remove the turbo to regain re-sale value the inspection failures will show up on carfax and the questions will come.

I've heard some guys with headers have intalled an OBDII compliant cat inplace of the secondaty cat in their TC and have eliminated the CEL error code.

I believe there is a company selling turbos that includes a high-flow cat in the down-pipe in the same location as the stock cat in the TC. This may also be an option -I still need to research this myself.
this really isnt a problem at all for the auto tC. the sweet spot in the auto starts at 4K RPM's. Combine that with longer gears and never having to let off the gas, you will have one fairly quick car.

A solution to not building maximum potential boost before 4K RPM is upgrading the BPV valve, which WILL NOT void your warranty.

Default Remote Mount Solves many problems - research it!

My questions to STSturbo...

"how much would a kit for my car cost? How many hours or dyno tuning should i expect? How long should the install take if done by a professional? If there isn't a kit available for this application, how long would I have to wait"

#1. $3150 for a universal.
#2. As long as it takes you to tune a vehicle. I hope there is tuning software available for your TC
#3. Probably a very very long time. There is not a complete kit available, nor are there any plans in the future to create one for a Scion.

If you are still wanting a turbo, our universal kit is what we offer to people who want a turbo but there is no kit available. It will require you or someone to custom fabricate the charge pipes for the car. Call me with any questions. Thanks

The next question then is how much would it be to get some custom mandrel bent tubing for both the exhaust and back from the turbo to the intake (or intercooler)? Does anyone have some experience with this or know anyone that can give a quote?
Thanks much in advance

Also, I heard ZPI is interested in doing a remote mount system but he'd need the car for a couple days to fabricate a kit (prolly more like a week in reality). I talked to Kenny and got the impression they'd love to have a donor car to help develop a kit! A remote mount kit would be cheaper than a manifold kit and would work as well or better and distribute the weight a bit better if not save weight.
