ive been researching different turbo sizes to run on my stock motor. im wanting to get around 300 whp but not sure whats the best size turbo to go with. i also went to some local shops to see what they would tell me.
if you guys could help me out and tell me what would be the best turbo for 300 whp.

if you have the money get a 60mm turbo....that way you wont have to upgrade if you decide to go bigger....new you can get a precision one for around 700 bucks....keep it a .63 ar exhaust housing so you can get a quick spool.....id say around 12-14 psi youll be close if not at 300hp depending on tune.

That's a pretty nice size turbo if you can get it for cheap great if not go smaller. How much they charging to make you a kit? And have they ever worked on a tc before?

i went to a couple local shops but the one that wants to use the precision 6262 wants 3800 installed. they said they build a couple and i actually saw one they built. they built the motor and put together a kit for it. but they used a gt30 on that car.

6262 is a decently large turbo and unless you want a more top end oriented power band, want to make 450whp or more, I would consider something smaller.

What are your power goals for the car? What is the use of the car?

Got pictures of the kit? And what else does the kit come with? If it's 3800 complete with injectors fuel management and that turbo with install that's a hell of a deal. I hope they use quality parts.

If 300whp is your goal, run a 50, 54 or 57 trim. All work very nicely on this engine and provide good power bands from say 3400-6500 RPMS. Here is recent 50 trim tuned...

Not impressive peak numbers, but great power from 3200 to redline of 6600

i run a 57 trim, and on a super conservative tune, at 10 psi i made 286.

edit: i also reach max boost at ~3300 rpm

im in the same boat as the OP as on my tC i dont wanna build the motor yet because i cant afford it until after this first year of school

my goal is to get right around 300whp maybe little less depending because i dont wanna blow the thing up.

now i know that for this goal it would be most logical to get a smaller turbo because i would like to be full spooled at about 3500 to 4k RPMs as that leaves enough room there for daily driving with out hitting much boost

as for my noob questiosn i dont know really much about turbos and i dont know how the sizing is done to determine if its small or not

hope this makes sense and i think itll also help the OP

also if there is someplace i can go and read and learn about all this stuff please link me

a nice t3t4 setup will support you well enough. most kits on the market come with a turbo that size or close to it. that being said, a t3t4 with a good tune will easily get you 300 to the wheels when tuned to say 10psi give or take 1 or 2 psi (tune, climate, elevation, etc.)
