What TURBO to go with

The thing about the log style is that the turbo will spool up quicker, but if your gonna be pushing over 300whp, it will actually hurt off the line in our FWD cars...and from a roll, it doesn't matter cause in 3rd at 40mph, we are revign high enought to kick the turbo in good.

Yea...sometimes it's hard to believe. There are good quality products out there that should be purchased. By this i mean do it the right way the first time. But with regard to which turbo is better (NOT COMPANY) you really need to think about characteristics that you're looking for. How you want it to drive.
1.What exhaust size will you want to run?
2.How much boost?
3.Will you be building the motor in the future (Bottom? or 4.Bottom and top)?
5.How do you normally drive (90%) of the time?
6.When do you want it to make peak horsepower by?
You really have to think about long term here. If you're looking to build your motor in the near future (more flow and increasing volume / strength) then as you buy your kit now you would want to leave a fairly signifcant margin for you to grow in. Thus allowing you to simply (ha! Nothing is simple) put your money into building the motor instead of having to purchase a new turbo to go with the new specs / output / flow characteristics of the new block or head or both.
Take my thoughts for example. Realistically I am looking to make about 350 - 400 whp in the end. Now what does that mean if I am to buy a turbo kit now. Well I would first want to check on what basics and fundamental building blocks I would need to cover on my car to even think about supporting 350-400whp. Secondly is that really practical as far as use? When will I be able to afford all the things I want and in what order should I do them? I would say think about what you want in the end. While I might not be able to spend the 15k (always over estimate!) for the built motor / intake manifold / custom turbo kit / tuning / EMS / along with all the other newly acquired requirements that having a turbo kit comes with.
But if I were to purchase something I first would need to really sit down and think about what I want. Only then can these guys really help you achieve what you want to do. Like my eventual goal..think about the end. Where do you want to end up? Then start the build and timeline from there. I'm not going to purchase something that my motor will outflow for my first turbo. I would think (just for example) of getting the GT35R running it at a lower boost setting etc until I was able to really push my motor. But even there there are so many variables (a lot of which I don't fully understand on the turbo / FI side of things) but I do understand that they, like A/R, different exhaust vs intake housings, and different compressor wheels. Not to mention suspension, fuel, air and spark , to over simplify things. All of these should be taken into account and asked about so that you may find the best fit for you.
All of these
So check out what hp ratings different turbos are good for. On both sites the tuners give you the model number. What I would suggest is check them out, do a little research and see which one's fall into your range with price, characteristics, and horsepower. Then you can play with variations depending on how custom and how much $$ you have.
Just my 2cents. and hopefully this helps you to think about the things you want and get this discussion a bit more interesting.

I would very much like to hear the elaboration as well..
But as soon as both customers reach there goals, I can elaborate all day long. And trust me I will.
2 things sell turbo kits....dynos and time slips....both of which literally mean nothing in real terms....but thats what customers want to see.
And other than 3 street cars....1 from Horizon(whp and et's) and Jotechs 4 door and new coupe.(whp)...I got it covered.
With some of the new projects...I hope to give Horizon a run for there $$$.

Yeah...except Dezod never even posting in this thread!
I guess they had other things they were dealing with this week...huh anurok?
edit: I just read back and dezod DID in fact post up on the first page...my bad!

...unless your talking about power...the EL mani on most TT kit's put out more power. Dezod one came up with 1 dyno of a kit on their log style that put our significantly more power then the rest of their log kits...and they titled the thread "proof in the pudding, log style" or something like that.

you can't go wrong either way, though. that said, i'm glad i went TT and got my beautiful EL manifold
Found this on the "Official" F/I Thread, but it seems to be missing TT as a variable.

Most turbos now don't hit that bolting on. Though his was not bolting on either =p

However it seems more and more evident that between TT & Dezod, it's a "preference" based experience over factual based determination as to which is superior.
There is only 3 things Dezod has over me:
1- Been in business longer in the Scion Community.
2- Probably sold more kits....at least on Scion Life. (SC is only a small part of my bus.)
3- Availability- they are by the phone all day...I am running around and cant always talk or answer emails as fast.
Thats it....
FACT.
I have over 14 years in the Sport Compact Industry and have worked for some of the leaders in forced induction.
And the only apples to apples comparison is there kits vs my SIMPLE kit.
Other than that there is no comparison.
I offer a higher quality kit at a lower or better price.
If people could actually see the components side by side before they purchased them....
Instead of listening to what other people have bought and going by the majority rules factor...
I know exactly what kit they would buy.
Sorry...in a mood lately

Todd
Yeah...well, we will be getting the first (that I know of) Dezod kit in Vegas in the next week or so, so it'll be the first of those I will have seen in person. Can't wait to compare to mine
