very few run oil temp gauges, usually they just use oil pressure.. are you running one?

Oil temp is going to be very similar to whatever your water temp is while operating. It shouldn't range more than 10-20* degrees from each other.

thats what i thought, oil should be a lil higher coz it doesnt release heat as much as water nor goes to a heat exchanger on a stock setup..

thanks rob!!! Sorry guys, there's nothing wrong with the car. I'm just looking at my options for oil weight. Some might say that weather temp is not a factor, but a thinner oil during the cool season might be good for cold start.
Only thing is, I have no idea on the impact the turbo makes when using the oil for cooling itself. Most of the oils I've seen on the 5w30 are between 57.5 - 62 cSt@104F & 10.2-10.8 cSt@212F. If we don't get near 212F (my water temps are 177F rock solid) during normal driving, then there's no point on going to a higher weight. With that being said, here winger gets on the 30's sometimes and might be harsh on the engine.

For next summer I'm looking at the Amsoil 5w40 at 13.7 cSt@212F for the extra protection for the track and 79.7 cSt@100F. Since the temps are higher, I'm sure the flow properties at cold start are going the be pretty close between the 5w40 and 5w30.
There are some 0w40 out there but they seem to be much thicker than 5w30 and 5w40 and the viscosity at crank when cold is too high for my taste.

What's ur input on this? BTW, do thicker oils help prevent blow-by?

Im using 10W40 and it does stay cleaner a bit longer than my 5w30, no problem with start ups so far. Just hit 62F today and didnt make difference as a 100F cold start. Ill see how it goes when we hit 40s. I might go back to 5w30 on winter if i have problems w/ 10w40.. I will try some 15w50 next summer and see how it goes

cool, thanks! I received my new stash of oil for the cold season, 5W30 Amsoil Baby!!! Also got their synthetic oil and air filter, it was much cheaper than the M1 oil filter and AEM dry air filter. The preferred account discount is well worth it if ur gonna get a lot of things at the same time, like stacking on oil, etc. The K&N filter needed to be changed badly.
