That kind of boost I would suggest a 16g or something similar. Spool up is super quick and that kind of boost is a happy place for that turbo. If you have bigger things in mind for later on go with a garrett or PTE that everyone is runnin these days. My 16g hits 10psi by 2800rpm and at that boost level it doesnt ever fall off.

i have a t3/to4e 60/ 82 a/r garrett that ill be running with my TT manifold. We are trying to find the best match turbo for his new motor but need to find out the combustion chamber volume.

i got a good question for ya don...have you noticed any differences bwtween the 05-06 oil pumps and 07-09 oil pumps. such as oil pressure produced from each, flow volume, ect.

No. The pump can be but the block and head both have additional oil passages.

The oil issue I have read at my old shop a technical bulletin put out by GM why to use the oil they recommend and yes it is partially for emission but it is to have the oil pass through the tight clearances and cool the bearings sufficient to allow for longevity of the engine.

How hard is it to remove the timing chain and covers. also will this throw the timing off? like seriously im doing all this myself for the very first time. about the biggest thing ive done to a motor is add headers. nothing interenal so any help i can get would be greatly appreciated. Also how likely is it that there would be damage to the piston by having a bent valve or is it all dependent on how bad the valve is bent. I think i bent an intake valve

It will throw off timing if you don't align it correctly when you reinstall.

Get a service manual or find someone that has the files on a computer and follow step by step.

don can you please look at this thread and let me know what the correct information is ? please I cant seem to find it unless I take a motor and rip it apart. you seem more familiar with it.
No I do not have this information available. I would have to CC a cylinder head and I don't have the time to do that right now. However, when it comes to boost. IMO, that's really not that important. If you have noticed amongst all the kits, most everyone makes the same kind of power at these low boost levels. Whether it's a log mani, el mani, big turbo, small turbo etc. At these boost levels you don't need to be worried about splitting hairs like that.

In addition to my statement above, there are engine sizes that work well with certain turbos. A 16G on a 2.4l is a great peaky torque turbo but will not carry the top end of something larger. One thing you must take into consideration when using a smaller turbo on a larger displacement engine is where in it's efficiency it will fall for the kind of boost you are running. A smaller turbo MAY make higher IAT compared to a larger turbo at the same boost. And high IAT lead to detonation which can damage engine parts. So really either of those turbos are a decent choice depending on your goals but really what you should be concerned about when running the smaller turbo make sure you have a very efficient intercooler to deal with the higher charge temps.

Nitrous is a form of forced induction like turbo or super charging. The way it comes is applied is totally different, Where boost from a turbo/supercharger comes on progressively, the boost you experience from Nitrous Oxide is very sudden and harsh on an engine. The sudden rise (jolt) in combustion pressures tends to hammer on the rod bearings. So in a way yes 10w30 is a good choice for what you are doing. However a better way of putting that is 10w30 is a better choice than 5w30 or 0w20. Nitrous is harsh and a decent oil that doesn't lose it's boundry lubrication under sudden stresses is a good choice.

No. The oil pump part numbers are the same from 2002-2009.

The only changes made to the lubrication system from the 05-06 to 07+ was the addition of piston oil squirters, different bearing groove sizes to enhance oiling at the center of the bearing, The oil pan volume has been increased as well as the shape to prevent the loss of energy from the balance shafts churning in the oil, however the overall capacity has not changed.

You could probably add oil squirters, probably not a good idea, I haven't tried, yet, so I don't know if it's possible.

It is not too difficult to remove those parts listed. Some people think that you need to remove the engine to do so. The service manual does not say you have to remove the engine. Get a copy of the book and follow it step by step. The most important thing is to listen to your intuition if you do not feel confidant enough to do it I would recommend seeking help or taking it to a shop. It could be an expensive and frustrating lesson.

9 times ouf of 10 the pistons are fine. What makes you think you bent an intake valve?
