I've read this a couple of times on here but that makes no sense to me. The only way I could see it being faster is because the ram check during POST has less to check but that could be fixed by turning it off in the BIOS (unless the BIOS don't have that feature). Is there any other reason for less ram? Having more RAM can help the overall boot and OS load time be faster. Not only that but loading/opening/running programs can be faster once the OS is loaded. I'm I wrong, whats the deal with this?

well here is the thing, most people who use carpc's will use hibernate. as you probably know, hibernate takes the RAM's data, put's it into a temporary file on the hard drive, turns off the computer, then resumes by reloading that data back into the ram.

this process takes much longer when you have more ram.

also, when you do a cold boot the bios does a memory check (think of it as counting all the way up to Xmb's... alot of bios's have a "quick boot" feature where they skip this memory check, so in that sense ram doesnt play a big role...

it just isnt worth the money or time to put in more than 512mb of ram in a car pc... 256 is PLENTY... i'm tempted to move down to 128mb or even 64mb... haha... 10 second boot time would be awesome (right now im at like 34 sec)

draws up too much critical usb power, more important things need it, like my gps reciever

if you get a powered hub you can do that

I have a Sprint PPC-6700 Pocket PC, and I was thinking about pluggin in a Wi-Fi external hard drive to read off music and movies from it, but your setup beats the heck out of mine. Bravo!

Wow, I wish I had the time, patience, and money to do something like that. Well, just the patience and money, being unemployed, all I have is time...

Here's a question for you... How easy was the screen install into the dash? and is it reversable?

I have built many carPCs for people before, but never installed one myself and am really wanting to do it myself finally... I just don't want to risk screwing up my center console...
