I have built many carPCs for people before, but never installed one myself and am really wanting to do it myself finally... I just don't want to risk screwing up my center console...

ok, well, you have to be careful running your monitor off of the ignition cable as someone suggested. if your monitor has a power filter, then you can and SHOULD use the ignition wire... HOWEVER, if there is no inline filter on the wire, you will NEED to either build a filter or power it from the 12v rail from the psu.
this is because the ign wire is not a stable 12v and fluctuates alot around 13.8v... not good for your CCFL's, this will cause your monitor to break prematurely (although it will be brighter for a while lol)

gotcha... the specs on the monitor says the operating voltage is 11-16V, would it still be cool to run it off ignition? i can't find anything about an inline filter so i figure it doesn't have one.. http://www.mini-box.com/VM7000-7-touchscreen thanks for the super quick response.
