Default Adding an Alarm?

My local dealer has told me that the 'Scion Security' package is a port installed option. I also see they're getting around 20 cars in stock soon to the spec I want, except without the alarm system.
I'd prefer to be able to pick my car up at the dealer with no miles on it, rather than have them source one with the security system and have it driven to them.

I'm wondering if it's possible to install an alarm and or immobilizer, which can hook into the existing remote entry system. I don't want to have two key fobs and have to push a button on each whenever I lock/alarm the car.

It would be cool to get the alarm to hook into the car's remote locking, but I am half expecting the only/easiest way to do it would be to get a new alarm system which also locks the doors too, and just run it all from the alarm system.

Any suggestions on doing this please? Also what brands of alarm are worth looking at in the US?

___

Thanks!

There are aftermarket systems that can utilize the stock key. the only thing with that is you will have limited security options available.

Though Viper (one of the best brands out there) has that type of system... the best things about them (two-way) is not available if you use that particular system that uses the stock key.

You won't need to use the stock key if you have the alarm that has the extra fob (just lock/unlock using that), and then you can get two-way.

And Scion Security is not just "port installed".. you can install it afterwards. I've done it myself on other cars. not too difficult.. but it's not worth the money, imo.. better off with aftermarket.

Thanks for the info, interesting to see the dealer was either misinformed or uh, lying!

So you're saying with an aftermarket system, I can just wire that into the existing central locking and just lock/unlock/arm/disarm it all from the aftermarket keyfob?

Assuming that, then I don't need to carry the factory one around with me any more, or is the locking button actually part of the key itself?

What exactly does two-way mean, and does installing this yourself void any warrantee?

Sorry for so many questions, thanks again for the help.

two-way means the fob maintains constant contact with the car within a certain range.

if your alarm goes off... your fob will let you know.

and yes.. you can operate everything from it. but you're still gonna have your key of course.. you just don't rally need to use it... but you can... whatever.. o.0

remote start in manual.. BAD IDEA..
i know plenty of friends who have messed their car up because of it.. accident or not... is it worth the risk? no.

I had the DEI Automate system installed, which works with the factory key to arm/disarm. Seems to work fine. Has options for hood protection and such. Only thing I didn't like was the fact that the alarm light is also the valet button, but you could program how many times you need to press it. So if you open the driver's side door with the key the alarm will wait a few seconds before going off, giving you enough time to insert key into ignition and press the valet key x number of times. Where's my coffee? Its early....
