advice on system
So far I have the following,
Jl 300/4 amp
MB quart psd 216 components ( for the front)
stock (rear)
I have a feeling if i power the stock rear speakers with this amp, I am pretty sure it will blow them. I thought all four speakers were 6.5 inches, so i was going to go with the MB QUART ADD-a-WOOFER speakers for the rear ones. Could 6.5 inch speakers fit or will i need to cut that beast? Are there any good speakers that come in 5.25 inches that actually produces enough bass so I dont have to spend money on another amp and subwoofer. Now, I am clueless with what to do. I want to avoid getting a subwoofer because the trunk space is crucial. But IF I have to I can maybe settle for a small one. Is it possible to only use 2 channels to power the components and then use the other two channels to power a small sub?

ooh very nice speakers. I used to own a pair myself. imo, I wouldn't bother with rear speakers. MB Quart has long since been bought a couple times. The PSD line was the last year of real MB Quart. You'll definitely have plenty of volume to not have to worry about the rears.
I would highly recommend deadening your car. Either RAAmat or the eD mat is great.
As for sub...if you want something small that'll give you a good amount of bass and not eat your trunk space...eD makes a slim sub and slim box for the tC. Fits next to your spare tire. Check it out. I'm thinking about getting one myself.
I envy your speakers, wish I didn't sell mine.

JL is also making a stealthbox...but it's gonna be very expensive in comparison. Atleast $600 if I recall

Definately edead the car you will love it and makesa huge difference. 6.5s will fit right into the back locations no modifications required. Polk speakers produce slightly more bass than most speakers if you want to stay cheap also my ss components produce awesome amounts of bass for 6.5s but then you at the way expensive side of things.

thanks for your replies, but do you think any of those 6.5 Speakers i listed will actually be any good so i dont have to waste money on a sub.
That box looks good, but it also looks expensive.
About the edeading, how much would i need and is it necessary even if i dont put a subwoofer in my car?

6.5" is fine for the front, but won't fit the stock rear. As I stated earlier, if you want 6.5 in the rear you'll need to do a slight bit of modification. If you're going to go through that, then you might as well install these Eu-700 7" speakers, since they'll give you a lot more bass than any of the 6.5" you're considering. If you don't want the usual sub/box/amp combo, this could be a good alternative.
will my 300/4 be enough power for those 7inch subs? also, how hard will it
be to modify it fit? What wires for the speakers, amp, and head unit do
I need to make it all work together? What brand to recommend? Thanks.
I stumbled upon these
they have the same subwoofers but in a 6.5 from ED
size 6.5 sub from ED
is the 7 inch better than a 6.5 one?

A sub is a very important part in a well balanced system... like I said earlier, keep your current components running off the front 2 channels of that amp and bridge the rear 2 channels to an SQ10 from Elemental Designs...

You might as well get a wiring kit which contains everything you need to install the amp and interface with your HU. Here's an example of a kit that would work for that amp. Because you'll be using 4 channels, an additional RCA cable will be required, and I recommend using the twisted-pair type, such as this reasonable priced version. What head unit will you be using? If you intend to use the stock unit, then the wiring will be a bit more involved.
As for making speakers larger than the 5.25" stock rear size, you'll have to build a new mount for them out of mdf or plywood, and may also need to trim some metal. There are lots of threads on SL with pictures showing this area if you want to search, but it should be fairly clear to you what's required when you see it after removing the rear side panels, as required to get to the speakers.
As I understand it, the Eu-700 is considered an actual subwoofer, while the Eu-650 you're asking about would be a midbass. Since both would require modifications for installation, the Eu-700 would be the one to meet your stated requirements.
Trying to get bass from an Eu-700 that's simply mounted in the stock rear panel will be very difficult. You'd need to have the front of the woofer completely sealed off from the rear of the woofer... this is called infinite baffle... or you could fiberglass an enclosure right into the rear panels for the woofer to sit in...
^ I agree it won't perform like a proper sealed sub in the hatch, but it should be a major improvment over stock, and this solution seems to fit his potential plan. And yes, turning the sides into enclosures would be ideal.
I wouldn't buy new MB Quart(I used to have some a few years ago before they were bought). MB Quart was bought a couple times...quality has gone down. If you want some nice cheap 6.5" speakers...look at CDT.
