Default Amp Installation Location

I have a pretty good idea for an amp installation. I am thinking about mounting the amp to the right of the spare tire. There is a rectangular space that seems to be the perfect size. Plus I wouldn't have to remove the spare tire. I'm currently planning on installing an Alpine PDX 1.1000 in the space and running it to 2, 12 inch Alpine type R's in the trunk. The PDX amps are small so i don't think fitting it in the space will be a problem, though i will measure of course. The only problem is that I am unsure if the amp will melt the material in the spare tire well, when I mount it there. The material seems to be a type of styrofoam, but I am unsure of what exactly it is. I know amps get hot, plus it will be in an enclosed area so it will be even hotter. What do you guys think. Good idea, bad idea? I was also thinking i could mount the amp to a piece of plywood and then place it in the spare tire well so that the amp is not directly touching the foam material, only the plywood. Just another thought. I just don't want to melt down half of my trunk and ruin my amp. So what do you guys think? Is it doable? Thanks in advance. Any thoughts are helpful!

I personally just mounted my amp to the back of my box in the truck, i had originally planned on putting it in that spot but when i tried to fit it inside that foam piece it would fit and then i realize it would just be easier to mount it to my box, the way i did it no wires are visible and its a clean install.

if your amps get hot enough to melt the styrofoam, you got bigger problems to worry about... amps should never get hot eoungh to melt that stuff... you should be all good to mount them there... mine has been there since day one and no problems... just be careful about how you mount the amp so that the amp doesn't rub against the styrofoam... cuz if it rubs, it'll squeak like it's nobody's business all the time...

There's plenty of room to fit the PDX's.

Ok, thanks for all the comments, i'll just go ahead and mount it there than. The main reason i don't want to mount it to the back of the backseat is because i snowboard a lot in the winter so i often times have to put down the back seats for more storage. I just dont want the amp getting in the way. the subs will be bulky enough.

To the guy that uploaded the pictures, nice setup! That looks really clean, i'll probably do something very similar to that.

I sort of have another question if anyone has any input, how many watts of rms power can the tc stock alternator handle? Because in addition to the 1000W rms PDX amp, i was gonna get another 400W rms PDX amp for the speakers. Not immediately, but eventually when i get a little more money. Do you guys think the stock tc alternator can handle 1400 Watts of rms. I've looked on forums a lot lately and they say not to go over around 1000-1200 without upgrading the alternator. But i've also heard of people running 2500 rms. I'm sure that's bad for the alternator, but as for 1400 rms, from 2 amps, do you guys think that's too much? I've also heard mixed emotions about capacitors, but i'm considering that option too. Or getting an upgraded battery. I just can't drop $600 into a high output alternator. Thanks, you guys have been helpful.

i had my amp where the stock sub used to be, but it was getting 0 air flow, so i moved it to a better spot.

Your alternator will be fine. I would do a big 3 upgrade. I am currently running a 1.600 and a 4.100. I've ran a Memphis Big Belle previously with no problems.
