Default amp troubles...

Ok, I messed up big time. I was unplugging a different amp from my car and hooking my sony amp back up... althought i didn't realize my remote wire was in my 12v, and vice versa... believe it or not, it turned on for about 5 seconds then all of a sudden shut off... i went to check and sure enough the wires were plugged in the wrong spots. So I switched them back, nothing. Checked my amp fuses... good, fuse under the hood, good... tried a new fuse, still didn't work. All wires are great. Is it possible that i toasted my amp?

It is a possibility that you fried your amp, but to be sure get it bench tested at a local audio shop. They'll be able to tell you.
Check your ground. That's what gave me trouble last year.

i did... nothing is coming out of it at all, no fuses blew or anything... all cords look ok, im going to hook up the other amp and see if it works.

You shouldn't have fried the amp, more likely you fried the remote turn on circuit in the head unit. Check to see if who ever installed you head unit possibly put a fuse inline with your remote turn on this could save you. A easy way to tell is to hook up you 12v and Ground, then jumper the 12v to your remote turn with a short piece of wire or a paper clip. If the amp turns on its the remote turn on circuit. If the amp doesn;t turn on the amp is either fried or is in protection mode which also requires service

You could have fried your HU, or your amp's internal remote switch, most likely the latter. I don't know if that is going to require the replacement of the entire amp.

Whenever stuff like this happens SUCKS, I can tell you that. I thought I had fried something when my Nine.2x didn't show any output on my multimeter. I don't have a speaker hooked up to it, so I tested the terminals of my Rockford which I knew was working as I heard sound from my doors, and saw no response from the multimeter. Cheap P.O.S. made me freak!
Good luck with finding with whatever's wrong, and always unplug the positive terminal from now on!

The probability of frieing the internal turn on switch is very slim. This is because you cannot force current into something. Just because the wire is thicker doesn't mean you are forcing more current into the amp. Based on ohms law I would say you fried the remote turn on circuit of the HU. The amps turn on circuit only drew milliamps from the car batt/alternator, then when the music started playin the amps amplifing circuit tried to draw probably around 40 Amps from the HU's remote turn on circuit. This would have done one of two things. Blew a fuse in the remote turn on circuit if there was one or, fried the remote turn on circuit in the head unit.

I would pull your headunit out and see if it has a fuse on the remote turn on lead (usually a solid bright blue wire). most headunits have a fuse on that lead to keep from having the headunit source alot of current through that circuit.
If you can get a meter, but it on the blue lead of the headunit and see if you get 12V there when the thing is on.
