Default Anybody that changed tC gauge colors

Ok I beeen looking through all the previous posts and I keep seeing conflicting reports on which leds to use. I'm trying to figure what blue ones are the best to get, where to get them from, and if any are not to dim for the center console. It seems agreed that the PLCC-2 are the correct size. So if you have done this mod (blue) PLEASE list what led's, where you got them, if they were good or matching brightness, mcd's if you know, and also what ones NOT to get. Thanks everyone

If you are only doing the Gauge Cluster then these LED's work perfect. Order 1 or 2 extra in case of mistake or non working led.

https://www.lc-led.com/

I also did Blue for the Gauge Cluster and bought my LED's from lc-led. I tried to do the center console, but they don't get nearly bright enough....yet to find a solution.

But, these look sweet in gauges.....bright and deep blue.

Which blue did you use? There seem to be several with varying mcd ratings.

Thanks.

so the lc-leds 98's are good but too dim for the center, anybody find ones that aren't to dim yet, or another solution? Thanks

Blue appears to be the problem. Red, green, amber, yellow, etc usually operate at 2.2 volts up to 5v. Blue requires 3.3 volts low end and that appears to be a problem for the center column. The guage cluster on the other hand appears to have 3+volts to work with so they look really bright and deep blue/

Many people are trying to find a fix. Ranging from changing out the voltage regulator on the board to inserting a resistor in parallel with the dimming ****...but the last option would mess with the gauge cluster voltage.

ScionDad, could you post a good picture of your console? Since you have the 350mcd one's, they have to be brighter than mine (98mcd). Thanks a ton.

If you have trouble posting here, you can email it to me at jmiller20874@yahoo.com

If you're decently good with a soldering iron, you'll find the hardest part is taking the dash apart (or the console anyways). It's not really that difficult to do if you have a steady hand.

Just get one from RadioShack, it's only $15 for a 15W-20W model. I doubt an audio shop will do it since they wouldn't want the liability.

In addition to led part #s, does anyone has a pinout diagram so we can benchtest these before reinstallation?

The only damage I've heard of is someone breaking their LCD display on the center console. No problems on the gauges. Read the tutorial...it's perfect.

It's really easy guys. It looks scarier than it really is. The needles have a built in stop (I took pics just to be safe BEFORE I took needles off).

As for a pinout, nope not that I've come across. When I changed them, I kept taking it out to the car and just plugging in the gauge and turning the key to light it up. Oh and make sure you turn the key ALL the way to acc cause some of the lights only come on in this position....I resoldered a few thinking I messed them up.
