I installed the Ipod radio but cant get the Ipod function to work. Its probably because there is a missing connector not found on the wiring harness. I was told the ipod radio can only be installed at the factory/port of entry. Hopefully this isnt true.

I'm not interested in aftermarket Ipod connectors and such, so any advice on such products will not be considered.

I searched and read the tC Ipod thread, but no luck. Thanks.

 

ehh..? plug in the extra iPod connector when you install the radio... and then route and hook up the extra harness to the armrest... at which then hook up the cable from the iPod to the connector that you put in the armrest...

and uhh.. that's it...

rumor about being installed at factory/port is a lie...

the only issue that anyone will ever have is having an '05 tC that doesn't have necessary wiring in the car already.

 

i have the cable that connects Ipod to arm rest console. i also have another cable that connects arm rest console to existing connector next to ebrake.

behind the radio itself is where I'm stuck. the wiring harness is missing a connector that goes into the back of the radio. on my stock 06 radio (non-ipod), the port/slot for this connector is blocked off.

the circled connector is missing on my wiring harness. this is not my actual radio. i stole this photo from ebay.


i'm going to try looking for that connector again tonight. everything else on the ipod radio works, except the ipod function LOL.

 

i took out the radio tonight and found the Ipod connector in the radio wiring harness. the connector was wrapped/bundled with foam and tape.

ohh.. yeah.. i was gonna say look towards the left side as the connector should be there as long as you don't have an '05.. which you don't.. so....

yeah... everything all dandy now right?

 

Does anyone know what the wire is called that the ipod plugs into? Or the model number so i can ask for it at the dealership tommorow. I have the 05 ( i beleve) ipod optional radio, and an 05 tc....thanks!

 

Not to stray to far off topic, but can you put an aftermarket cable in the ipod cable spot in the armrest?

You can't get the ipod harness that runs from the HU to the center console alone. You have to purchase the whole harness for $1500.00 from toyota. The best option is to find someone with a junked/totaled tC, and get the ipod harness from it. It takes about 15 minutes to cut the ipod harness from the rest of the wires. It is an easy install once you get the ipod harness. I have an 05 tC and have installed the ipod HU and the ipod cable succesfully.
